    Scenario and Direction: Imagine you are a celebrity Historian. You are to make a RESPONSE
    R-ecord of events
    LETTER for your fan’s query, asking for the relevance of History in our country. Use 10
    sentences.

    Y-ears of the past


    Thank you for corresponding to this fan mailbox, dear fan. As a renowned historian, it’s
    a duty and responsibility to give and make a good perspective and scope of our history

    as a country, its people and its culture. We as a Filipino, are resourceful, sociable, fun-
    loving, hospitable, and family oriented people and its roots have been in our history.
    Learning Philippine History through the Filipino perspective is important because we as
    a country has always been occupied by some foreign powers like Spain, Japan, and the
    US and by that, I mean that our history is also being recorded to their own perspectives.
    As a historian I believe that we should have our history centered only through our
    narratives and try to disassociate western thoughts and perceptions through it. One
    example would be the “barbaric” or “simple minded” view of our natives here in our
    country by western historians but in fact, our natives are also capable and resourceful
    such as the Katutubo in Mountain Province’s Banaue Rice Terraces. Before our colonial
    past we Filipinos have a form of basic government, the Datus and the likes on which
    acts as a designated ruler of a clan or an area of territory on which are also capable of
    trading to other civilizations of before such as merchants in China and the Arabs long
    before we have been colonized. In the Boxer Codex of the Spanish, it has been
    recorded that we have a certain sense of sophistication through our fashion such as the
    extravagant necklaces and accessories adorned with gold, the cultural significances of
    tattoos, and the textile of the clothes being used. In short, we are a rich country with a
    lot of diversity and yet it’s been underrated and not being given focused much in
    modern times. We as a country should promote its own cultures and is given a spotlight
    to our modern Philippine setting. It is also important to realize our footing of our history
    and culture to our South East Asian neighbors and try to get along with them too with
    our shared history with them. Lastly, we should enrich and preserve our lost and
    remaining history and give value to some of the less recognized cultures that we have
    here in the Philippines because a country would not be felt like a country if its culture
    does not have its own identity.
