Draft and Cut Pattern for Ladies
Skirt
Pattern making is important for students for them to interpret the designs and
understand the design of a garment. Also, a pattern is used as a guide to garment
construction.
Kinds of Pattern
1. Foundation Pattern contains exact body measurements and reflects no definite
style. This serves as the basis for preparing the style pattern. The foundation of the
basic pattern is a simple pattern fitted to the individual and is a mirror image of the body.
There is no allowance for fullness but only for darts.
2. Style Pattern shows the style of the garment to be constructed. It contains the
necessary seam allowances needed to finish the garment. This pattern is a valuable
guide to cutting the cloth and assembling the garment.
8. A to I is 3 ½ inches.
9. I to J is 5 inches down
Procedure:
Check every detail of the pattern.
Make sure that the allowances are there.
All lines should be connected appropriately.
If there are no mistakes, then you can now cut the pattern properly
Be resourceful, you can improvise tools that can help you doing the drafting.
Follow these preliminary steps to have a good start.
1. Prepare one whole pattern paper.
