MODULE 1
LESSON1
MOTIVATION/PROMPTING QUESTION
Directions: List down what you knew about Dr. Jose P. Rizal through the diagram below
ACTIVITY 1
1. In your own perception, is RIZAL worthy to be recognized as a national hero? Why or
Why not?
Yes, Dr. Jose Rizal is worthy to be our national hero. He bravely gave his life to
serve and free his country. He fought for our freedom in a silent but powerful way.
Instead of using his fist, he used his pen and paper to expressed his love for the
Philippines through his novels, essays and articles. Rizal serves as an inspiration that
indeed violence is not the answer. It is because of his selflessness and undying
courage that makes him worthy of his title as our national hero.
2. For you, who is the greatest hero of the Philippines? Defend your answer.
The greatest hero, I suppose, is Dr. Jose Rizal. Unlike the others, he used his
profound intelligence rather than this fist to express his love and defend our nation.
With his pen, Rizal wrote novels and became the voice of the oppressed Filipinos
during the Spanish rule. He did not use force nor violence to achieve his goal of peace
and liberty. Even in exile, Rizal being a doctor, improved and helped many lives in
Dapitan. Indeed, Dr. Jose Rizal is a great example that a hero need not to be in the
battlefield fighting a war, but is someone who willing to give up one’s life for his/her
nation. To the very end of his life, Rizal did not betray his country and faced death
bravely for his fellowmen. And that’s what makes him my greatest hero.
ACTIVITY 2
1. “Heroes are made.”
Everyone is not born a hero. However, we are all born with the capability to become
one. Indeed, anyone can become a hero. So comes the question, what makes a hero?
In my opinion, a hero can be anyone who shows bravery in the face of adversity. It
could be anyone willing to lay their lives for the sake of others. Or someone who helps
others by giving them strength to go on through life’s difficulties. Heroes come in all
shapes and sizes. They could be doctors, firefighters, teachers, soldiers, missionaries,
our parents and even ourselves. Heroes need not to possess superhuman powers
such as flight or magic but rather shows genuine goodness without being asked. They
do not seek fame but rather seek to become a role models that inspires others to do
the right thing. To put it simply, one does not wake up one day and instantly become
a hero. Instead, one must first make a mark on the world or to the lives of the people
surrounding them.
In this world nothing is perfect, even our heroes. Heroes are human beings.
Therefore, one way or another, they possess certain flaws and weaknesses. Heroes
feel emotions such pain, fear, anxiety and anger. Their judgement may not always be
right. Thus, they are capable of committing mistakes. However, what makes someone
a hero is their ability to overcome their fear. Their ability to surpass their weakness is
what truly distinguishes them from the rest of us. It is their flaws that makes them
extraordinary and what truly defines them as heroes. With that being said, A hero need
not to be perfect to change the world.
TEST 1. Identify the concepts described below. Choose the answers from the box below.
It is in a jumbled-letter form; arrange it for you to have the answer. Write your answers in
capital letters.
TEST 2. Identify the statements whether it is True or False. If it is true, write T otherwise
write F.
T 2. Heroes are made because they enacted the call for heroism in times
of distress.
F 3. The person becomes a hero when he fights oppression for his own
good.
Activity 2:
This activity made me come to a realization about what it truly means to be a hero.
It taught me that every individual has the capability to become a one. Being a hero, does
not mean possessing supernatural powers rather it is the ability to put others wellbeing
before yours. There are many ways one can become hero. Through simple acts of
kindness and manifesting courage one can already be a hero. Through this activity, I also
learned that even heroes are not perfect. We all have our weaknesses and fears.
However, one does not need to be perfect to make a mark on this world and touch the
lives of others.

according to the elders he was a teacher and

family living in Bayawan City many years ago.
REFLECTION OR INSIGHTS:
1. What have you learned from this lesson?
From this lesson, I have learned that to become a great hero, one must manifest
and exhibit genuine goodness. This lesson has taught me that despite being human,
we all have the capability to become our own version of a great hero. We may not
possess any supernatural powers but we can touch the lives of other through simple
acts of kindness. And that through peace, we can change the world.
Honestly speaking, yes, I would like to become one. I mean who doesn’t right?
Each one of us wants to touch the lives of many people. We all desire to make a
difference in this world and hopefully, make it a better place. Personally, I would want
to have super powers but that’s too farfetched to become a reality. Instead, I want to
help homeless people. Provide them with shelter, food and other necessities because
seeing them in the streets just breaks my heart especially if they are elderly. Another
thing I would do is to build an animal shelter for stray dogs and cats. I have always
been an animal lover and I couldn’t take these loving creatures being abused or killed.
It just really inhumane. But for now, I do not have enough resources to achieve my
goal. So, for the mean time, I will strive to become a role model to my fellow human
beings by helping in any way I can in my community and hopefully, when time permits,
I will accomplish my goal of helping homeless people in a large scale and help our
furry friends.
LESSON 2
MOTIVATION/PROMPTING QUESTION
Directions: List down the characteristics that will make you as an exemplary person. Use
the diagram below.
I believe that possessing these characters will help me become the hero I have
always envisioned myself to be. They will help me become a good role model in my
community. These characters will help me make a difference in the lives of others and
make the world a better place.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES/EXERCISE
ACTIVITY 1: Answer the following questions to deepen more your understandings of the
lesson.
1. How will you define a hero in your own perception? Give at least 5 and explain each.
• A hero is SELFLESS = a hero will not think twice to put the wellbeing of other
before his/her own.
• A hero is COURAGEOUS = a hero is not afraid to face and overcome his fears
and weaknesses.
• A hero is WISE = a hero has the power to discern and do what just and right.
• A hero is KIND-HEARTED = a hero genuinely manifest and exhibits goodness
to the people around them.
• A hero is INSPIRATIONAL = a hero serves as a role model and inspires the
people to strive to become the best versions of themselves.
2. Using the criteria of a hero presented in the lesson, do our heroes reached the criteria
of being a hero? Explain why.
In my own opinion, yes. Our heroes reached the criteria of being a hero. Otherwise,
we would have not considered them as one. Furthermore, almost all our heroes either
gave up their lives for our country’s freedom or dedicated their lives for the betterment
of our country.
ACTIVITY 2: Give your insights with the following statements listed below.
How we treat other people as well as possessing the power to discern and do
what is just and right are some of the factors that makes a person a hero. Therefore,
to be considered a hero, one must manifest a good moral character. This means an
individual should showcase genuine kindness and benevolence. A hero’s actions are
fueled by the goodness in their hearts to touch the lives of others and make their mark
in this world.
A person’s motives and methods could very well define what kind of hero they may
become. Hence, it should be tested as most human action is driven by egocentric
thoughts and mindset. We often do things that would prove beneficial to our image
and wellbeing rather than for the greater good of the people. Our motives then
influence our methods, how will we be able to achieve what we desire? If driven by
selfish notions, one’s method could threaten and adversely affect other people.
However, if our motive is to help other people, then our way of doing it will sure be in
a careful and gentle manner making sure that we do not harm the people around us.
TEST II. Identify the statements whether it is True or False. If it is true, write T otherwise
write F.
FEEDBACK TO ASSESSMENT:
Activity 1:
Through this activity, I am able to describe my own definition of a hero. It enabled
me to characterize the different attributes of an individual for them to be considered a
hero in my perspective. It also taught me that for someone to be considered a hero,
he/she must first reach various criteria. To be worthily acknowledged as a hero, an
individual must possess good moral character, selfless motives and methods and etc.
Activity 2:
In this activity, I have learned that a hero can only be considered a hero if he/she
possesses the characteristics mentioned on the criteria. A hero must be of good moral
conduct. His/her motives should be for the benefit of the people and that his/her methods
should not harm anyone. Lastly, this activity made me realize that a hero can be anyone,
but not anyone can become a hero.
ASSIGNMENT
Enrichment activity:
1. Do a research work on Jose Rizal.
a. Present his biography.
Dr. José Rizal was a man of intellectual power and artistic talent whom
Filipinos honor as their national hero. He excelled at anything that he puts his mind
to: medicine, poetry, sketching, architecture, sociology and more. He wrote about
the discrimination that accompanied Spain's colonial rule of his country. He
returned to the Philippines in 1892 but was exiled due to his desire for reform.
Although he supported peaceful change, Rizal was convicted of sedition and
executed on December 30, 1896, at age 35.
Early Life
On June 19, 1861, José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was
born in Calamba in the Philippines' Laguna Province. A brilliant student who
became proficient in multiple languages, José Rizal studied medicine in Manila. In
1882, he traveled to Spain to complete his medical degree.
After a show trial, Rizal was convicted of sedition and sentenced to death
by firing squad. Rizal's public execution was carried out in Manila on December
30, 1896, when he was 35 years old. His execution created more opposition to
Spanish rule.
Spain's control of the Philippines ended in 1898, though the country did
not gain lasting independence until after World War II. Rizal remains a nationalist
icon in the Philippines for helping the country take its first steps toward
independence.
2. Write an essay according to his writings. Analyze how these ideas would improve the
situation of the Filipino
Dr. Jose Rizal, our national hero, firmly believed that the “the pen is mightier than
the sword”. With his profound intellectual brilliance, he wrote literary masterpieces that
voiced strong opposition to the abuse of the Spanish colonial government. He
conveyed a strong message that inspired his fellowmen to fight for the nation’s
independence. Two of his most acclaimed literary works are: Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibuterismo. These novels opened the eyes of Filipinos to the corruption and abuses
perpetrated by the Spanish Government.
Noli Me Tangere, is one of the most the most sought-after books in Philippine
literature until today. Rizal, driven undying love for his country, wrote this masterpiece
to expose the ills of Philippine Society during the Spanish colonial era. It showed how
the Spanish maltreated and abused the Filipinos. It showed how we, Filipinos, suffered
great injustice in the hands of friars who abused their power. Each character and event
of the said novel depicts different roles, cultures, and beliefs in Philippine society and
urges us, Filipinos, to make a stand and fight for the country’s freedom. Jose Rizal’s
Noli Me Tangere teaches the youth to love our country. It tells us to work hand in hand
to improve our nation. Noli urges us to become empowered catalysts of change for
the betterment of the Philippines.
REFLECTION OR INSIGHTS:
1. What have you learned from this lesson?
I have learned a great deal of knowledge with regards to my country’s history, the
life of our national hero, how he inspired his fellowmen to fight for freedom, and the
horrors our countrymen faced in the hands of the Spanish Colonizers. Rizal as a heroic
figure, possesses both intelligence and strength. His love and dedication for his
country inspired the people then to fight against the Spanish tyrants and it continually
inspires the youth of today to work hand in hand to better the Philippines. In his novels,
Dr. Jose Rizal instills the power of education. He believed that it is the key to escape
poverty and injustice. Ultimately, Rizal imparts the value of seeking peace instead of
violence. He is a constant reminder that we must practice peaceful means to fight for
what we think is right.
MODULE 2
ACTIVITY 1. DRAWING
DRAW HERE:
ACTIVITY 1. NARRATION OF VALUES
INSTRUCTION. Based on the discussion from the topic, write the importance of the Noli
Me Tangere in our present time.
Answer Here:
Dr. Jose Rizal’s Noli Me tangere continues to remain relevant to Filipinos of the
20th century. Its been over a 100 years yet social ills that Rizal fought in his life are still
present and continue to afflict the Philippine society. The conflicts that were dominant in
the novel like corruption, injustice, poverty and abuse remain the same problem up to this
very day. In addition to that, our nation remains colonized by foreign powers and from
time to time experiences maltreatment. Powerful nations like the U.S treat our archipelago
as it were there backyard that needs to be “protected” from enemies. This explains the
presence of American troops through Visiting forces agreements, military exercises and
enhanced defense cooperation activities. At the same time, powerful imperialist
colonizers like China continue to compromise our country’s sovereignty as it continually
exerts violence fueled efforts in claiming islands in the West Philippines Sea. Meanwhile,
the state attacks against injustice and democratic rights that Rizal saw in his lifetime as
he dealt with censorship, the guardia civil, and a sham justice system, seem to have been
replicated in the current Duterte Administration. the judiciary’s independence now in
question due to the former CJ Maria Lourdes Sereno’s ousting through quo warranto, the
forces of our Philippine National Police roam the streets as modern-day guardia civil that
prey on the helpless in the guise of maintain peace and order, and Spanish-era
censorship has morphed into the disinformation of fake news and attacks on press
freedom.
On the bright side, Noli Me Tangere continues to inspire the youth to adhere a
sense of nationalism. It urges the Filipino people to fight for their rights and seek
accountability in the present administration. Noli Me Tangere acts as a reminder that the
government should remain committed, sincere and honest in serving the people. It
reminds us Filipinos, that we should be working together to improve our nation. Ultimately,
Noli Me Tangere teaches us to foster peace unity within ourselves and strive for the
betterment of the Philippines.
QUIZ 1.

by the Filipino youth. For starters, it promotes and instills the sense of nationalism. It
opened the eyes of Filipinos to fight and defend our country from foreign oppressors. It
inspires the youth to work together to bring glory to our motherland. Noli reminds us to
patronize our country, respect and abide our laws as well as love and promote our own
culture. It encourages us to fight for what we think is right and just. It teaches us to fight
for our rights and seek justice. Ultimately, Noli teaches us how to fight in a peaceful
manner, that fighting doesn’t need bolos or big guns, but can be done simply with the use
of a pen, paper and intellect.
