ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS IN THE LIFE CYCLES OF ORGANISMS

Q2_W5_Science 4

Describe the effect of the environment on the life cycle of organism. S4LT-IIg-h-14

Introduction:
Living things constantly interact with their environment. Each environment is
made up of BIOTIC( living things) and ABIOTIC (non-living things) components
that interact and depend on one another in different ways.

Environmental effects include both physical and biotic attributes throughout

the life cycle of a certain organism. Physical Attributes include abiotic factors such as
temperature, radiation, light, chemistry, and geology. Biotic factors include genes,
cells, organisms and members of the same species; habitat, would pertain to both
biotic and abiotic factors.
POPULATION – group of the same kind (species) of living things that live in
one area called HABITAT ( a place where plants and animals live) at a given time.
COMMUNITY – is a group of animal and plant population living together in the same
environment.
ECOSYSTEM – the animals largest and the most complex level of organization
which consists of all plants, , and microorganisms which function with all the
environmental factors such as sunlight, climate, soil, water, space, nutrients,
temperature and energy.

Physical Environment includes:

 WATER: organisms should receive the right amount: not too much or too less
 GRAVITY: can change the features of an organism such as their height, size,
behaviors and habitat being occupied.
 PRESSURE: affect those who fly in high altitudes and dive to deep ocean
depths.
 WIND & TURBULENCE: can influence heat, transpiration and evaporation
processes.
 FIRE: releases carbon dioxide and converts fuel into ash and tar.
 SOIL: is where organisms feed and migrate.
 CLIMATE: changes in weather condition that sometimes result to climate
change.
Changes in one ecological or environmental factor can affect the
dynamic state of an entire ecosystem, particularly the stages of development
on the life cycle of an organism.
 Organisms and Their Environments
o All animals depend on plants. Some animals eat plants for food. Other
animals eat animals that eat the plants.

o An organism's patterns of behavior are related to the nature of that
organism's environment, including the kinds and numbers of other
organisms present, the availability of food and resources, and the
physical characteristics of the environment. When the environment
changes, some plants and animals survive and reproduce and others
die or move to new locations.
o All organisms cause changes in the environment where they live.
Some of these changes are detrimental to the organism or other
organisms, whereas others are beneficial.
Humans depend on their natural and constructed environments. Humans
change environments in ways that can be either beneficial or detrimental for
themselves and other organisms.
