India is a major force in the global energy economy. Energy consumption
has more than doubled since 2000 in India, this because of its growing population.
They have good plans and executions to provide energy to around 90 percent of its
people. Government of India has done a good work providing access to energy to
more percentage of its population.
What will be the impacts of the energy consumption?
The study (IEA) shows that India will be the largest energy consumer by 2030.
Continued industrialization and urbanization will cause this increase in demand.
Such demand will make India more reliant in fossil fuel, oil, and gas.
Convid-19 has impacted energy consumption. Energy demands was supposed to
increase almost 50%, but during the pandemic increase in a 55%. It seems to be
an small variation, but it changes when you see that the total demand of energy is
about 900 GW compounded of 44% from coal, 25% from oil, 6% por natural gas,
13% from traditional biomass, 3% from modern renewable, and 9% from other
resources.
India has doubled its stock of solar photovoltaic and wind power plants in the last
five years. Maybe one point of discussion is that they were not thinking in
sustainability concern, but in clean energy´s potential for meeting effectively the
development need and cost of its citizenship.
How is India dealing with these impacts?
Growth in renewable energy has 95.7 GW of renewable energy capacity. The
country is targeting 450 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030. Wind
power plants, and hydroelectric, and solar plant are some of the most important
sources for energy production today and in the future. From 2014 to today India
has been invested more than US$ 42 billion in plans for energy renewable plants
The impact on the environment is similar as what we have seen y the readings of
the week. Coal and crude oil are the most important sources of energy production.
Together with such production there is the production of great amounts of carbon
dioxide. Pollution will increase every year because of the increasing demand in the
country.
Some of the great issue in energy production in India are the big amounts of
sources that need to be imported from other countries, and shortages of electricity
suppliance for industries and companies. Because of this there are moment when
industries have to stop their production for days, or even weeks.
