Check-In Activity No.2: Limiting Reactants

This document provides instructions for a virtual simulation activity on limiting reactants. Students are asked to complete three parts of the simulation: 1) Determine limiting reactants in sandwich reactions, 2) Do the same for molecule reactions making water, 3) Play the game part of the simulation and report their score. The objectives are to identify limiting and excess reactants, determine leftover amounts, and do calculations related to limiting reactants.

leftovers_en.html

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the virtual simulation, you should be able to:

 identify the limiting reactant and the reactant in excess in a reaction;

 determine the amount of excess reactant in a reaction; and
 perform calculations related to limiting reactants.

II. PROCEDURES:

General directions: Record yourself while doing the virtual simulation. The
duration of your video recording should not be less than a minute. This will serve
as an evidence that it is really you who performed this individual task. Submit
your video in https://flipgrid.com/4edca578.

A. SANDWICHES (10 points)

1. Click the “Sandwiches” option in the home tab.
2. Use the default settings (cheese only) of the simulation.
3. Using the given amounts of reactants, determine the number of the products
formed, the limiting reactants, the reactants in excess and the number of
excess reactants (left-overs). Put your answers in the corresponding columns.

2. Use the default settings (make water only) of the simulation.
3. Using the given amount of reactants, determine the number of the products
formed, the limiting reactants, the reactants in excess and the number of
excess reactants (left-overs). Put your answers in the corresponding columns.
