UNIT 5: Storytelling – The lion and the mouse

By the end of the lesson the puplis will have:
- Understand and enjoy the story through the use of context cues, pictures and repetition.
- Remember the key vocabulary of the story.
- Re- tell the story with the help of visual aids actions and their teacher.
Assumed knowledge of pupils.
Concept: grade 3.
Recycled language: lion, mouse, angry, wake up, scared, kind.

laugh…” and gives
demonstration. Students
join the game.
7. Teacher says “ Very
good! Today I’m going to
tell you a story!”

Teacher continues
reading the story “ The
lion wakes up. The lion is
angry and the mouse is
scared. I’m very sorry,
says the mouse. Don’t
eat me! I can help you
one day.”
4. Teacher asks student
to predict what’s next “
What the lion do? Can
you guess?”
5. Teacher asks student
to guess “Does the lion
think the mouse can help
him? No”. “Why do you
think so? The mouse is
small”. Teacher
encourages the students
to predict the next
scene:” What do you
think the lion will do to
the mouse? Eat it”
Teacher continues
reading the story “The
lion laughs:That’s funny!
You are little! How can
you help me?”
Teacher shows a picture
of a lion smiling: “Is he
angry now? No”.
The teacher ”Yes, the
lion is not angry now. So
the mouse runs away”.
6. Teacher continues the
story and asks the
students to act :“One
year later, the lion is
walking in the jungle. A
big net falls over the lion.
The lion opens its mouth
and roars. What sound
does the lion roar?”
Teacher shows a picture
of a lion being stuck :”
Can it jump?No”.” Can it
walk?” No”. “Who is
going help the lion now?
The mouse”.
Teacher encourages
students to interact with
the character in the story:
“Where is Mr. Lion? On
the tree”. “Why is he on
the tree? The net falls
over the lion”. “How can I
cut the net? Use your
teeth”. “ How can I help
him? You climb up the
tree”
Teacher continues the
story: ”The mouse climbs
up the tree, chews the
net and makes a big
hole. Mr. Lion is free.
Class, if someone help
you, what will you do?
Thanks them”. “ If
someone say thank you,
what should you say?
You are welcome”.
