Answer: Activity 5
Swamps are home to alligators, fish, crustaceans, and birds, as well as tall plants and hanging
vines. Swamps are sometimes drained of water and filled with soil so new houses can be built.
Describe the changes that may occur in an ecosystem five and fifty years after a swamp is
drained and houses are built.
Answer
The ecosystem that once thrived in the swamp, after it was drained
5 or 50 years will significantly change. Primarily because houses are
already built in the swamp, meaning it is another ecosystem that has
been destroyed because of urbanization and human population.
The ecosystem of the swamp will never be the same or will forever
be gone, the organisms and trees surrounding the newly built houses will
be disturbed and the natural environment will never look the same.
