o Measure

i This work is indicated to prove the

correct synchronization of camshaft with
crankshaft. The measurement of the 1st
cylinder valves lift is enough to detect
eventual irregularities.

1 Remove the head cover AR01.20-B-5014C

2 Turn the crankshaft until the first cylinder pis-

ton reaches approximately the TDC at the
compression time. Consequently, the valves
of the 6th cylinder must be balanced.

3 Turn approximately 1/6 of a full circle in the

rotation direction.

4 Place a shim of approximately 8 mm between

one of the 6th cylinder valves and its respec-
tive rocker arm.

5 Turn slowly the crankshaft in the direction

opposite to the rotation direction until the pis-
ton touches the valve. In this point, carry out
the first mark on pulley, at the indicating arrow
alignment point.

6 Turn slowly the crankshaft in the rotation

direction until the piston touches again the
valve. In this point, make the second mark on
the pulley, in the point where the indicating
arrow alignment is.

7 Remove the shim placed between the valve

and the rocker arm.

8 Make a third mark in the middle of the dis-

tance between the first and second marks.

9 Align the 3rd mark with the indicating arrow,

and this is the position of the exact TDC.

10 Eliminate the play of the first cylinder valves

placing between them and the rocker arms a
blade of approximately 0,8 mm

11 Fasten the support (2) with the dial gauge (1) l 001 589 53 21 00
in such a way that its feeler is supported on
l 363 589 02 21 00
the intake valve plate and adjust the dial
gauge scale to zero “0” with some pre-load.

12 Turn the crankshaft in the direction opposite i The amount indicated at the dial BE05.30-B-1020-01A
to the rotation until the dial gauge pointer gauge scale is the valve lift at TDC II.

stops.

13 Place again the piston of the first cylinder at

the TDC II

14 Support the dial gauge feeler on the exhaust

valve plate.

blades placed between valves and rocker
arms.
