Subject: Final maximum permissible speed certificate for BG RS-2 DMRC
coaches upto a maximum speed of 85 km/h,
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (OMRC) has procured 424 coaches from M/s
Bombardier Transportation, Germany/BT India Consortium for Delhi Metro's
BG Rail System. Each self-propelled bi-directional unit consists of 4 cars,
with two motor cars (MC) in between two driving trailer cars (DTC) at either
end, Being the multiple units, the configuration of trains can be extended to
6/8 car formation by adding one/two M-T unit(s). These coaches are filled
with Delnar coupler, electro pneumatic brake with regenerative system and
bolster less air suspension bogies having air suspension at secondary stage
and coil springs suspension at primary stage. These coaches have been
designed by M/s Bombardier Transportation, Germany and initially
manufactured by Mls Bombardier Transportation, Germany and
subsequently by M/s BT India. The design features and layout of DTC, TC
and MC coaches are as shown in their drawing nos.3EST000214-7146,
3EST000219-7787 and 3EST000214-7147 respectively. Axle load of DTC.
TC and MC coaches under gross load condition is 17.0t,
With a view to assess the speed potential of motor and driving trailer coach
the detailed oscillation trials were conducted upto a maximum test speed of
95 kmph in inflated condition and 90 kmph in deflated secondary spring
condition on DMRC BG Network. The results are contained in RDSO Report
No, MT-RDSO/2009/TGIMT-955/F,Rev.0 of June 2009. The stock has
exhibited satisfactory riding characteristic upto a maximnum test speed of 95
kmph in inflated and 80 kmph in deflated secondary spring condition.
Based on the oscillation trials, it is certified that operation of DMRC RS-2
stock in 2.3 or 4 unit configuration for 4,6 or 8 coach train formation; each
unit consisting of two coaches viz, one motor coach and one trailer coach or

on deflated condition on DMRC BG network with
compatible signaling systeiit Subject to the following conditions:
Track
The track shall be minimum standard of UIC 60kg rails to IRS-T-12-96 on
PSC sleepers with spacing of 600 mm (max) and minimum depth of ballast
cushion of 300mm (for ballasted track) which may consist of at feast 150mm
clean and the rest in caked up condition on compacted and stable formation.
For track maintained to lower standard than that mentioned above, the Chief
Engineer of DMRC shall decide the lower maximum permissible speed on
the basis of maintenance condition. When the Chief Engineer DMRC
considers that the road bed is not compacted or there is improper drainage,
he may suitably restrict the maximum permissible speed depending upon the
local conditions.
‘The maximum permissible speed on curves shall be decided on the basis of
extant provision.
Bridges
The clearance refers to bridges with standard design of girders, slabs, pipe
culverts, piers and abutments etc. issued by RDSO for BGML, RBG and
MBG-1987 standard loadings. However the bearings of span 78.8 m
(Effective) designed for BGML standard loadings as per RDSO drawing No,
BA-11154 should be strengthen by providing two additional anchor bolts.
Superstructure & bearings of non-standard spans including Arches and.sub-
structures of all bridges are to be examined under the directions of the Chief
Bridge Engineer concer and certified safe by him in terms of current IRS
Bridge rules, Stee! Bridge Code, Concrete Bridge Cade, Arch Bridge Code,
Bridge Sub-Structures and Foundations Code etc. read with up to-date
corrections slips.
DMRC to certify adequacy of existing bridges for permitting rolling stock
based on physical condition of bridges by keeping them under observation
considered necessary by the Chief Bridge Engineer of DMRC.
Location of bridges on which speed restrictions are imposed shall be notified
by DMRC and incorporated in the working time table.

This clearance is subject to the following parameters
Maximum axle load of driving trailer coach (DTC)/
trailer coach (TC) J 17.0t
Maximum axle load of motor coach (MC) 17.0t
Maximum braking force of driving trailer coach (OTC)/
trailer coach (TC) ; 99.51 KN
‘Maximum regenerative braking force of motor coach 119 KN
Maximum tractive effort per motor coach 116.5 KN
CG height from rail level Not exceeding
1700 mm
Signaling |
All necessary precautions shall be taken to ensure safety as well as other
operational requirements by DMRC based on the signaling system in force
on DMRC rail network.
Traction Installation
The OHE shall have swiveling type of cantilever assembly faving the tension
of 1200kgf in the conductors regulated automatically. The contact wire shall
have a pre-sag (in mm) of (L/1000) where ‘L’ is span length in meters and
the maximum span length is 54 meters. For OHE of standard other than the
mentioned above, the concerned Chief Electrical Engineer of DMRC shall
decide the maximum permissible speed
The Chief Electrical Engineer may impose any temporary speed restrictions
on the basis of his personal knowledge and experience of the OHE and the
conditions prevailing on the particular section
Genera?
Ali the permaneni and temporary speed restrictions in force and those that
may be imposed from time to time due to track, bridges, curves, signaling
and interlocking etc. shall be observed
Any special restriction imposed by CEE of DMRC due to the conditions of
overhead equipment or any other reasons shall be observed.
The MC/DTC/TC coaches infringes clause 3.1.1 of DMRC BG Schedule of
Dimensions Pt-1(Rail Corridor) & Pt-2 (Underground) which has been
condoned by Railway Board vide their letter no 2000/Proj/DLV30/3(Pt) dated

uy14.05,2009 (copy enclosed). Further, Kinematic profile of rolling stock should
~ be within Kinematic envelope of these coaches (passenger electric multiple
units) as shown in Fig. RCBG- 7 of DMRC part-| and MCBG-4 part-II (Metro
Rail Corridor) and SOD of DMRC for Metro and Rail Corridors.
2.5.4 in case any secondary air spring of a coach gets deflated during the tun, the
maximum speed of the train shall be brought down to 70Kmph immediately .
and the train shall be withdrawn from service and brought for attention, to a
depot or taken to a siding, as situation demands, at the earliest opportunity
and in any case not later than after completion of its round trip.
