ANALYSIS #3
MY FRENCH VILLAGE
By: Criselda Yabes
1. How different is the author from her friend and fellow Filipina, Anna Liza?
The author different from her friend Anna Liza in a way of their attitudes because
of the experiences of her friend besides from she’s been there more than 20 years
which she has many experiences there in the village rather than with the author.
For the part of Anna Liza, for the duration of his stay in the village for a long time
she no longer likes what he sees around him, not like the author even though she
lives in a simple village she does not lose her appetite there and how the author
picture out or describe the simplicity of the village.
2. The author claims, “I am tempted to call my village simple.” What details in the
story indicate this “simplicity”?
The Author tempted to call her village simple because even if it was a laidback
rural village she finds her small joy in the French village and the people there is
very hospitable to whole heartedly welcome neighbors. She also finds small things
that made her happy. In the story it indicates “simplicity” referring to the way of
life inherent to relatively small, and relatively contained multigenerational
communities which individuals know one another well, share the joys, burdens
and sorrow in everyday life and nurture one another in times of need.
3. Why did Anna Liza say that the river for her was “useless” or “walang silbi”?
What feelings was reflected by the impression?
Anna Liza says that the river for her was useless because base on the text when the
massacre was happen, she hoping to find solace as she would have done back
home, but it has been locked to keep away from vandals. She said useless or
walang silbi because the sight of the water made her pine for the seas back home a
thousand miles away.
Even if there are more description about the village but if you analyze and read it
properly you will realize and conclude that the text is all about the personal
narrative or personal experiences of the author in the village of Les Ardennes. The
authors personal narrative is not direct to his experiences because she used
techniques to make her personal narrative more entertaining and she used a place
and most of that was connected to his experiences about the village.
The indicate a factual experiences and provides/ share a meaningful event from
her life in that place. The author also incorporates vivid descriptive details, as well
as thoughts, feelings and reactions. Although this personal narrative capture
events, sometimes the author embellishes or use hyperbole for dramatic effect.
