The document provides an analysis of the personal narrative "My French Village" by Criselda Yabes. It summarizes each paragraph of the narrative. The analysis indicates that the village is described as simple, with a laidback rural lifestyle where neighbors are welcoming. While the author finds joy in village life, her friend Anna Liza has lost her appetite for it after living there for over 20 years. The river near the village holds no meaning for Anna Liza as it is now locked away, but the author appreciates the natural beauty and solace she finds among the trees. The analysis evaluates the narrative as focusing on the author's personal thoughts and feelings about her experiences living in the village through vivid descriptions and some exaggerated language

ANALYSIS #3
MY FRENCH VILLAGE
By: Criselda Yabes

1. How different is the author from her friend and fellow Filipina, Anna Liza?
 The author different from her friend Anna Liza in a way of their attitudes because
of the experiences of her friend besides from she’s been there more than 20 years
which she has many experiences there in the village rather than with the author.
For the part of Anna Liza, for the duration of his stay in the village for a long time
she no longer likes what he sees around him, not like the author even though she
lives in a simple village she does not lose her appetite there and how the author
picture out or describe the simplicity of the village.

2. The author claims, “I am tempted to call my village simple.” What details in the
story indicate this “simplicity”?
 The Author tempted to call her village simple because even if it was a laidback
rural village she finds her small joy in the French village and the people there is
very hospitable to whole heartedly welcome neighbors. She also finds small things
that made her happy. In the story it indicates “simplicity” referring to the way of
life inherent to relatively small, and relatively contained multigenerational
communities which individuals know one another well, share the joys, burdens
and sorrow in everyday life and nurture one another in times of need.

3. Why did Anna Liza say that the river for her was “useless” or “walang silbi”?
What feelings was reflected by the impression?
 Anna Liza says that the river for her was useless because base on the text when the
massacre was happen, she hoping to find solace as she would have done back
home, but it has been locked to keep away from vandals. She said useless or
walang silbi because the sight of the water made her pine for the seas back home a
thousand miles away.

4. What did the author like about the village?

 The Author like about the village is how beautiful the village even if in the
simplest way, because she found solace in the hospitality shown by her fellow
workers, she lived in a comfortable way that the environment was peaceful and
simple. And the silent meander among pines and oaks and other trees that she
never seen in her country, which made her daydream, made her go forward and it
gave her a certain amount of strength to live in the village despite of its simplicity
which is not a highly modernized and highly industrialized area of the place.
5. As a personal narrative, what linguistic or literary strategies does the piece
employ?
 The linguistic or literary strategies does the piece employ is the figurative
language to describe and emphasize the idea of the village more colorful, more
vivid and more effective to the readers. It provides deeper meaning for the reader
and help them to use imagination to visualize situations on the text. It uses
language chosen to tell a story, include hyperbole or exaggerations of words to
help readers to paint a more vivid picture. It also uses hyperbole to make the story
more persuasive, like for example “the finger stuck in the ass” it uses hyperbole to
evoke strong feelings and to create an impression to the reader.

6. How are you going to evaluate the text as a personal narrative?

Give at least three (3) evaluation.
 It focuses on the feelings and thoughts of the writer, because it revolves around the
events of the author’s personal experience in the village. The author gives an
insight about her simple life, especially an important event that tells to have a
better life in the village. She gives a vivid description about her life which focuses
on the setting, characters and events in the story. She wrote what she feels about
the village if it is not a modernized village it gives her happiness.

 Even if there are more description about the village but if you analyze and read it
properly you will realize and conclude that the text is all about the personal
narrative or personal experiences of the author in the village of Les Ardennes. The
authors personal narrative is not direct to his experiences because she used
techniques to make her personal narrative more entertaining and she used a place
and most of that was connected to his experiences about the village.

 The indicate a factual experiences and provides/ share a meaningful event from
her life in that place. The author also incorporates vivid descriptive details, as well
as thoughts, feelings and reactions. Although this personal narrative capture
events, sometimes the author embellishes or use hyperbole for dramatic effect.
