Heidegger argues that technology should not be defined simply as a means to an end or human activity. To understand technology's essence, we must see beyond defining it as a tool. Heidegger says technology's essence reveals truths and sees the world as a "standing reserve" for human fulfillment. However, this essence also endangers nature through pollution, global warming, and species extinction if left unchecked. Heidegger believes we must question technology to avoid environmental catastrophes and use it in a way that does not harm nature.

According to Heidegger, the definition of technology as a means to an end and a
human activity is not really the technology should be defined. He said that the definition is not enough to define what technology really is. To understand what the technology is we need to have free-relationship to it. It is also important that we should not think of technology as a tool, but we must find the essence of technology. It is also important not to think of technology the same as technology’s essence. When we found out the essence of technology, we will discover the things technologies have in common. Causality is explained in the article, it is also known as the four causes. Heidegger used the silver chalice as an example to explain causality. The first one is the “causa materialis”, it is the material in which the chalice was made, in the example it is the silver. Next is the “causa formalis” which is the structure or the form in which it is shaped. The third is “causa efficiens” which is the cause or source in which the chalice is made, in the example it is the silversmith. The fourth is “causa finalis”, it is the reason of why the object is made. Heidegger often refers to “Unconcealment”, it is where we make our ideas into something tangible. Unconcealment is also means “Truth”. In here, we can say technology is way to reveal the truth. Heidegger also mentioned the terms “poesis” and “techne”. Poesis is the idea and techne is the skill. When one possesses both, one can reveal to us. The essence of technology is that it reveals to us the truth. I am unable to understand why causality goes beyond modern technology. It is very different to technologies that is created prior today. It is said that “Enframing” is the essence of modern technology. It means that we take for granted what our nature gives. Instead of seeing the trees as a source of oxygen, we see trees as a material that we can use in building things like chairs, tables, and houses. The essence of modern technology is that it lets us see the world differently. We see it as a standing reserve for our personal fulfillment. Heidegger concerns about the dangers of technology. We see its dangers like pollution, global warming and extinction of animals. In the future, the amount of trash and garbages will be uncontrollable. I would like to know more about the dangers of technology. The things it will bring to our society. Technology can work against us. Harming the nature or environment is also harming ourselves. Heidegger says that we need to question technology in order to avoid catastrophes like global warming. We should always question the use of technology without hurting the nature our world. “The closer we come to the danger, the more brightly do the ways into the saving power begin to shine and the more questioning we become. For questioning is the piety of thought.”
