TEACHING PROFESSION
Name: Course/Level: LEARNING ACTIVITY TASK # 2
CRITICAL QUESTIONS: REFLECT AND WRITE YOUR ANSWER.
1. What are the personal characteristics of an ideal teacher? For me, an ideal teacher is someone who teaches not only cognitive skills but also gives importance to how the student is as a whole. One characteristic, I think, of an ideal teacher is empathic. Being able to connect with the student deeper than just teacher delivering information. Having the connection can result in a harmonious classroom environment and effective teaching. The students are comfortable inside the school because they have someone they trust while the teacher can still establish discipline and boundaries. Another important characteristic is being committed, to the profession and to the students. Being committed rakes in the other characteristics such as patience, being a good role model, confidence, et cetera. Commitment to being a teacher means the person is constantly improving to upgrade their learning in order to provide the best education for their students. 2. Do you believe that teachers are unfairly treated compared to other professions? Why? I do think that compared to revered, high-paying jobs; teachers are being looked down on. Ever since I was in elementary, while teachers encouraged students to become future teachers, it was always followed up by the warnings such as low salary, overloaded with work, and difficult working conditions. While teachers have a lot of benefits, it is usually only for those who work in public schools. More students are taking programs that will have high-paying salary. For such a demanding job of shaping the future generation and the work that comes into preparing the lessons, teaching the students, grading, talking to the school administration and parents, I think teachers are not as highly regarded and compensated for compared to other professions.
3. How do we encourage teachers to become human rights advocates in their communities
too? Outside of the classroom, the teacher can advocate for what they think is right that should not be reflected by how they are as a teacher, however, they also have an obligation to their job that they should always maintain a morally upright and professional. The teachers’ – first and foremost- job is to teach, not to dictate what students should believe and stand for, only to guide them in knowing themselves and help build their character. Teachers should not take into the classroom and have any personal biases in teaching. 4. Is teaching profession still the noblest profession? Why? I think all professions are noble and it is kind of subjective if asked which is the noblest. As a future teacher, it would be biased to say that it is the noblest profession. Teachers are in charge of the future generations, and I think what is noble about it is helping the students realize their potential and come into a conclusion on what they want to become in their own future profession. Teachers give inspiration daily for these students and interact with them personally which is more that other professions. They also have the chance to help build up their character to help them become a good person.
