INSTRUCTIONS:

1. In the table below, illustrate at least twenty (20) common science laboratory apparatus /
equipment (being used in chemistry laboratories). Name each of them and give their uses /
function. (You may give more than twenty if you like.)

2. Your output may either be computerized or hand-written.

3. You can search the internet for the picture then copy and paste them to the table or you can
illustrate / draw each apparatus / equipment and take pictures of your output (using any Fast
Scan, Cam Scanner or similar application) for submission on schedule.

Note:
Presentation is free style.
 You can present 1 apparatus per page, 2 apparatus or more apparatus per

COMMON LABORATORY APPARATUS / EQUIPMENT

WITH USES / FUNCTION

Picture and Name of Apparatus Uses / Function

1.BEAKER Is a common containerin most lab. It is use for
mixing, stirring, and heating chemical. Most
beakers have spouts in their rims to aid in
pouring.

2. TEST TUBE Is a glass container used in a scientific

laboratory. Scientists (and mad scientists) used
test tube to hold chemical during experiments.
If you take a chemistry class, you might use a
test tube to handle corrosive chemicals, or to
mix two substances safely.

3.FLORENCE FLASK It is used as a container to hold liquids. A

Florence flask has a round body, a long neck,
and often a flat bottom. It is designed for
uniform heating, boiling, distillation and ease
of swirling; it is produced in a number of
different glass thickness to stand different
types of use.

4.FUNNEL To channel liquids or fine-grained substances

into containers with a small opening. Used for
pouring liquids or powder through a small
opening and for holding the filter paper in
filtration. Used in transferring liquids in small
container.

5.CRUCIBLE TONG Crucible tongs are used for removing the lids
from crucible, transferring evaporating dishes
or picking small object out of a reaction
container. Beaker tongs are used for carrying
beakers, evaporating dishes or flasks.

6.TEST TUBE HOLDER A Test tube holder is used to hold test tube. It
is used for holding a test tube in place when
the tube is not or should not be touched. For
example, a test tube holder can be used to
hold a test tube while it is being heated.

7.BURETTE A Burette is used to dispense small volume of

liquid called alliquots, or sometimes gas, with
high accuracy. It consists of a long glass tube
with a value at one end to control the flow of
liquid. Burettes serve essentially the same
purpose as a pipette.

8.CLAY TRIANGLE A Clay triangle is a piece of laboratory

equipment used in the process of heating
substance. It is used in conjunction with other
lab equipment bto create a stable frame work
in which to place a substance--usually a solid
chemical--while it is heated to a high
temperature.

9.RUBBER STOPPERS Rubber stoppers are ideal for plugging joints or

holes in laboratory glassware and creating a
liquid-tight seal. Rubber bungs are often used
with glass container such as test tubes, flasks,
jugs and many other pieces of standard lab
equipment.

10.WIRE GAUZE Is a sheet of thin metal that has net-like

pattern or a wire mesh. Wire gauze is placed
on the support ring that is attached to the
retort stand between the Bunsen burner and
the glassware to support the breaks, flasks or
other glassware during heating.

11.CLAMPS Clamps are versatile tools that serve to

temporarily work securely in place. They are
used for many applications including carpentry,
woodworking, furniture making, welding,
construction And metal working.

12.CONDENSERS Condenser are used for efficient heat rejection

in many industrial systems. Condensers are
used in air conditioning, industrial chemical
processes such as distillation, steam power
plants and other heat- exchange system. Use of
cooling water or surrounding air as the coolant
is common in many condenser.
13.TEST TUBE BRUSH A test tube brush or spout brush is a brush
used for cleaning test tube and narrow mouth
laboratory glassware, such as graduated
cylinders, burettes and Erlenmeyer flasks.

14.RING STAND Ring stand are used to hold glass ware in place
during an experimental procedure. You can
attach ring clamps, versatile clamps, or 3-prong
clamps (the latter require clamp holders).

15.WATCH GLASS Watch glasses are circular, slightly-concave

pieces of glass that are used by chemists to
evaporate liquids and cover beakers during
sample preparation. They are also used to hold
solid during weighing.

16.MORTAR AND PESTLE Mortal and Pestle is a set of two simple tools
used since the stone age to the present day to
prepare ingredients or substances by crushing
and grinding them into a fine paste or powder
in the kitchen laboratory, and pharmacy.

17.CRUCIBLE AND COVER It is important that a crucible cover be able to

handle high temperature, because a crucible is
used to melt materials such as glass and metal.
The cover may also be used to contain
chemicals while they are being heated in a
laboratory setting.

18.GRADUATED PIPETTE A Graduated Pipette is a pipette with its

volume in increments, marked along the tube.
It is used to accurately measure and transfer a
volume of liquid from one container to
another. It is made from plastic or tube and has
a tepered trip.
19.SCOOPULA Scoopula is a brand name of a spatula-like
scoop utensil used primarily in chemistry lab
settings to transfer solid: to a weight paper for
weighing, to a cover slip to measure melting
point, or a graduated cylinders, or to a watch
glass from a flash or beaker through scraping.

20.GRADUATED CYLINDER Graduated Cylinder are long, slender vessels

used for measuring the volumes of liquids.
They are not intended fo mixing, stirring,
heating, or weighing. Graduated Cylinder
commonly range in size from 5mL to 500mL.
Some can even hold volume of more than a
liter.
