 Describe ornamental plants.

Plants come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and appearances and can be found all over the
world. Others provide us with only visual pleasure, while others provide us with food,
shelter, or building materials. The main characteristic of ornamental plants, also known
as garden plants, is their beauty. It is a plant primarily grown for its beauty, either for
screening, accent, specimen, color, or aesthetic reasons. It is usually grown in the flower
garden for the display of its flowers. Leaves, smell, fruit, stem, and bark are all common
attractive traits. Plants must be maintained and worked on by a gardener in order to be
considered ornamental. Many plants cultivated for topiary and bonsai, for example,
would only be deemed ornamental if the gardener pruned them on a regular basis, and
they would quickly lose their ornamental value if the labor was abandoned.
