4.5 FDB
iPASOLINK has FDB (Forwarding Data Base) function, which enables to learn the
Source MAC Address dynamically per Port or VLAN ID. It also has the Age Out
function that automatically discards frames after the specific period if the learned
FDB does not receive frames again with the specific Source MAC Address, or with
the specific Destination MAC Address.

To enable/disable the Age Out function, to modify the Age Out period, to configure
the maximum number of learning, to register Static FDB are available. Limiting the
number of learning can restrict the number of connecting hosts, which allows to
reduce the load to the network.

After reaching the limited number of learning, if it still receives the frames to learn,
the following mode will apply:

Forwarding Mode
In this mode, frames are forwarded according to their Destination MAC Addresses. This
mode can be specified when the restriction is set per equipment or per VLAN.

Discard Mode
In this mode, frames are discarded regardless of their Destination MAC Addresses. This
mode can be specified when the restriction is set per equipment, per port or per VLAN.

NOTE: When the restriction is set per Port, the mode is fixed to Discard Mode.

4.11 Link Aggregation

iPASOLINK has link aggregation function to make logical transmission path by
aggregating plural Ethernet physical ports to one logical port. By using this function,
redundant operation can be provided for the Group Port. iPASOLINK provides two
algorithm; Static Algorithm not using protocol, and LACP Algorithm conforming to
IEEE802.3ad.
Further, iPASOLINK has L2 Based assignment mode, L3 Based assignment mode,
and MPLS Based assignment mode:
- L2 Based mode is assigned by Ethernet frame header.
- L3 Based mode is assigned by IP frame header.
- MPLS Based mode is assigned by MPLS label.

4.12 ETH Ring Protection

iPASOLINK provides ETH Ring Protection (ERP) function, which complies with
ITU-T G.8032. In ETH Ring, protection switching within 50 ms is actualized in Ring
topology by LOC detection (using ETH-CC of Ethernet OAM) and R-APS_PDU for
ETH Ring Control.

In normal operation, Ring Protection Link (RPL) Port in RPL Owner Node is blocked.
When any failure is detected, the switching is executed because the Failure Detection
Port is blocked and RPL Port block is released.

The following figures show an image of switching action in ETH Ring Protection:

For one Physical Ethernet Port, Logical Rings can be independently set in units of
multiple VLAN IDs.

4.13 STP/RSTP
iPASOLINK provides Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) function, which,
complies with IEEE 802.1w. iPASOLINK can connect with any equipment which
supports Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) function because RSTP is compatible with
STP function, which is specified in IEEE 802.1D.

STP/RSTP avoids looping of a network by using BPDU (Bridge Protocol Data Unit)
frame. In RSTP, protocol communications of Proposal and Agreement are executed,
then Root Bridge and Designated Port (DP) are immediately decided.

In normal operation, looping is avoided because Alternate Port (AP) and Backup
Port (BP) are become to Discard state. When any failure is detected, communication
route is switched over because AP is transited to Root Port (RP) and BP is transited
to DP.

The following figures show an image of switching action:

4.14 MSTP
iPASOLINK provides Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) function, which,
complies with IEEE 802.1s. MSTP processes multiple VLANs in units of Multiple
Spanning Tree Instance (MSTI), and consists of one Internal Spanning Tree (IST)
and multiple MSTIs.

Assembly of switches that have same MST Configuration is called “Region.” IST
exists across the Region.

iPASOLINK can connect with any equipment which supports STP/RSTP function
because MSTP is compatible with STP/RSTP function due to IST.

MSTP also avoids looping of a network by using BPDU (Bridge Protocol Data
Unit) frame as same as STP/RSTP.

5.4 SNCP
This section describes the settings for SNCP Path.

5.4.1 SNCP Setup

iPASOLINK supports SNCP (SubNetwork Connection Protection) with 1+1
Unidirectional basis. This function provides a path redundancy in E1 signal basis,
and switches to the path to be selected by judging failure information from the both
paths in the equipment with SNCP set.

As a setting of the whole network, set cross connection to each Node as shown in
the figure below.

Because SNCP path cannot be set by using Easy Setup, set with a procedure in this
section.

The SNCP setting procedure is basically similar to the ordinary Cross Connect,
however checking "Protection" and selecting two interfaces for setting protection
are required at the terminal points where SNCP is configured. In the LCT setting
window, upper-selected interface becomes Work Path (Default Online), and
lower-selected interface becomes Protection Path (Default Offline).

Note: The SNCP function is not supported on Radio interfaces with 1+1 setting.

5.5 APS
This section describes procedures for APS setting.

iPASOLINK supports APS (Automatic Protection Switching) function in STM-1

section. This function provides path redundancy in STM-1 basis, and switches the
path according to the failure information detected by iPASOLINK side in the
redundant path of STM-1 section.

Figure 5-10 STM-1 Section Redundancy by APS

There are following two kinds of configuration of STM-1 Section configuring APS.
APS inside Card: Switch group is configured by Port1 and Port2 in the same STM-1
Card.
APS between Cards: Switch group is configured by each Port1 and each Port2 between
different STM-1 Cards.
APS inside Card can be set for both STM-1 (Channelized) and STM-1 (Through),
meanwhile APS between Cards can be set only for STM-1 (Through).

Only APS inside Card by Channelized STM-1 can be set by Easy Setup. Refer to 8.6.1

6. CLOCK SYNCHRONIZATION

6.1 Clock Synchronization Summary

iPASOLINK requires the equipment clock settings for any type of system
configuration. When wrong setting is performed, data transmission errors may occur,
so please be careful. Clock synchronization setting of iPASOLINK is the following
procedure.

1. Provisioning  Equipment Clock / Synchronization Setting  Equipment Clock Setting

1-1. Select Equipment Clock Mode (Master / Slave) for the Radio Section.
1-2. Select Timing Source for the Equipment Clock.

6.2 Select Equipment Clock Mode (Master or Slave) for

Radio Section
In order to establish the clock synchronization for the Radio Section, iPASOLINK
should set either end NE as the Clock Master, and the other end NE as the Clock
Slave. The Radio Section configurations are the following cases.

6-4 Clock Synchronization

6.3.1 When CLK2M-C Card is NOT Mounted

When the CLK2M-C Card is not mounted, iPASOLINK is operative only as the
Clock Master or Clock Slave by the Radio Synchronization. For this reason, the
equipment on one end of Radio-to-Radio connection must set its Clock Mode of the
radio section to the Master, then that on the other end must set its Clock Mode to the
Slave, which enables to select the Timing Source 1 or 2 for the Slave NE.

 For Equipment CLK Mode = Slave (MODEM):

One Radio Timing Source entry can be selected from MODEM 1 or MODEM 2
(for iPASOLINK200) or from MODEM-A Card in one of Slots (for
iPASOLINK400, 400A, 1000). In the 1+1 Protection Configuration, one Radio
Timing Source entry can be selected from SW Group 1 (for iPASOLINK200) or
from SW Group (for iPASOLINK400, 400A, 1000).

 For Equipment CLK Mode = Slave (Auto):

Two Radio Timing Source entries can be selected from MODEM 1 or MODEM 2
(for iPASOLINK200) or from MODEM-A Cards in Slots (for iPASOLINK400,
400A, 1000). In the 1+1 Protection Configuration, only SW Group 1 (for
iPASOLINK200) or SW Group n (for iPASOLINK400, 400A, and 1000) can be
entered.

When CLK2M-C Card is mounted, the following selections for the Radio
Synchronization Timing Source are available. In addition, the Synchronization
Clock can be supplied to the radio-synchronized lower-order NE.

If a clock down of Timing Source is detected, iPASOLINK can still continue to

operate using Holdover.

NOTE:
Selecting no Timing Source where the Equipment Clock Mode is set to Slave causes
loss of synchronization within the Radio Section.
