any 5 (five) from Group B to E, taking at least one from each group.

diode.
(c) An n-type germanium crystal has a current density of 100 A / m2 .The crystal has
a resistivity of 0.5   m and electron mobility of 0.4 m2 / V  s . Calculate the drift
velocity and the time taken by the electron to travel 10 micrometer in the
crystal. Assume e  1.6  1019 C .

3. (a) Explain the working principle of a full wave rectifier with the help of a circuit
diagram and relevant waveforms.
(b) What do you mean by THE peak inverse voltage of a rectifier?
(c) A diode having forward resistance of 50 Ω supplies power to a load resistance
1200 Ω from a 20 V (rms) source. Calculate the dc load current and the dc
output power.

4. (a) Draw the output characteristics of an n-p-n transistor in CE mode showing
different regions of operation.
(b) Define α and β. Show that β=α/(1-α).

(c) An n-p-n transistor with α = 0.98 is operated in CB configuration. If the emitter
current is 3 mA and the reverse saturation current is ICO = 10 µA, what are the
base current and the collector current?

5. (a) What is bias stabilization? What are the factors that affect the biasing stability of
a transistor?
(b) For a fixed biased circuit, find the stability factor S.
(c) For the circuit shown, find the values of , VCC , and R B .Draw the dc load line
also. Assume the transistor type is silicon.

6. (a) What is the significance of the term field-effect transistor? Why the field - effect
transistor is called a unipolar transistor?
(b) Mention the JFET parameters and drive the relationship between them.
(c) Draw the circuit diagram of a common-source n-channel JFET amplifier. How
can the static characteristics of an n channel JFET be obtained?

7. (a) Draw the net sketch of a CMOS inverter and explain its operation with voltage
transfer characteristics.
(b) What is the constructional difference between enhancement and depletion type
MOSFET?
(c) Draw the drain characteristics of an n-channel MOSFET operated in both
enhancement and depletion modes.

8. (a) Show that the overall gain of a voltage-series negative feedback amplifier is Af =
A / (1+Aβ).
(b) Write down the salient features of negative feedback.
(c) The open-loop gain of an amplifier changes by 20% due to changes in the
parameters of the active amplifying device. If a change of overall gain by 2% is
permissible, what type of feedback has to be applied? If the overall gain is 10,
find the return difference and the open-loop gain.

9. (a) Explain the block diagram of operational amplifier (op-amp) with all its stages.
(b) What should be the ideal characteristics of an op-amp? Draw equivalent circuit
of an op-amp and discuss ideal voltage transfer curve.
(c) Explain the use of an op-amp as integrator.
