What symbol is this, <? Less than madam

How about this, >? Greater than madam
How about this symbol, =? Equal madam

Less than meaning.

Greater than meaning

Now class,
If we will compare 5 to 18, what symbol will Less than madam
we use?
If I will compare 10 to 9, what symbol will I Greater than madam
use?
How about if I compare 100 to 100, what Equal madam
symbol will I use?

Excellent class!
B. Developmental Activities:
1. Presentation:

Fractions can be compared using relation

symbols such as greater than less than or
equal.
Similar (like) fractions are fractions with the
same denominator.
For example:
3/8 and 2/8
1/8 and 7/8

Class can you also give some examples of (Students will answer)
similar (like) fractions?
Amazing!

Now, I want you to compare the given

fractions using Greater than (>), Less than (<)
and Equal (=).

1. 2/20 ___ 5/20 Less than

2. 9/10___ 3/10 Greater than
3. 21/28 ___ 27/28 Less than
4. 11/39 ___ 10/39 Greater than
5. 7/25 ___ 7/25 Equal

Brilliant! All of your answers are correct

2. Analysis and Discussion:

Today, we are going to use our comparing

skills in comparing fractions. But remember,
we can only compare fractions if we are
referring to the same thing.

Fractions tell us about parts of a whole. It has

a numerator and a denominator.

I have here sets of fraction strips and I want

you to examine them carefully.

This fraction strip shows 2/6.

This fraction strip shows 3/6

Now let us compare this two fractions.

Which is lesser, 2/6 or 3/6?
YES, JOSELITO 2/6 is lesser than 3/6

Let’s try another example.

RHEA, Which is greater, 2/5 or 2/5 IS GREATER THAN 1/5
1/5?

Very Good! When comparing two fractions with like

What can you observe on the fractions that we denominators, the larger fraction is the one
have compared? REYMARK with the greater numerator.
Their denominators are the same madam.
What can you say about their denominators?
--ARLEN The numerator is the number of equal parts
What does the numerator tells us in you have. The denominator is the total
comparing fractions with the same number of equal parts the whole was divided
denominator? MARIEKIT into.
BRILLIANT! Your answers are all correct.

Fractions with the same denominators are

divided into the same number of equal parts.
To compare fractions with the same
denominators, we just compare their
numerators.
C. Post Activity:
1. Application:

This time, let us have an individual activity.

1. Which is longer, a stick that ¾ m long

or a stick that is 2/4 m long?

2. Joanna ate 3/8 of the pizza, while

James ate 5/8 of the pizza. Who ate
less?
Very good! I know you understand
our lesson very well class. You all
did a great job.
