These two channels of the company have received 32 Ramnath Goenka Excellence in journalism awards. Having said that there are some remarkable works of NDTV that I thought were worth mentioning. NDTV is most proud of how its work impacts the real world and how it is using its powerful reach to campaign for and with the people of India. Award winning campaigns like Save our tigers, The greenathon and Jeene ki asha. Someway or somehow forced government to act legislation to changed and made the nation aware of the power of people. To make this much impact, NDTV has sure come a long way, so let’s look at a little history behind NDTV being NDTV. When NDTV was launched in 1984, it started as a production house of news for the public broadcaster Doordarshan. In 1995, NDTV began producing shows like News tonight, the news hour and good morning India for Doordarshan. Under the term that NDTV would produce all news content for the Star Network, they signed an agreement for 5 years in 1998. In 1999 NDTV also launched it’s own website called NDTV.COM That was probably the first step of NDTV towards being an independent news broadcaster. The contract between Star network and NDTV was terminated in 2003. After that it launched its own news channels NDTV 24x7 followed by Hindi channel NDTV India. Soon after its launched NDTV 24x7 became the Fortuner in English segment and NDTV India had the 2nd highest viewership followed by Aaj Tak in the Hindi language segment. Now the Expansion attempted by NDTV. In 2005, the network had also launched a business news channel called NDTV Profit. The channel would become a competitor of the leading business news channel CNBC and TV18 over the next 5 years. In 2007, the NDTV launched The good times an upmarket lifestyle channel for the global urban Indian. Also, in order to fund newsgathering, NDTV launched the first general entertainment channel NDTV Imagine on 21 January 2008. Moving towards financial crisis: NDTV’s economic condition downturned since the financial crisis also after failure of venture. Joint venture incurred a Net loss of 20 crore in two years of it’s operation, as a solution in 2015, NDTV Profit, the business channel became a hybrid channel featuring both business during day and entertainment programs under the name NDTV Prime on weekend and after 6 PM. Now the controversies that involves NDTV: NDTV India was banned because there was and action taken against the channel because it had revealed sensitive details such as the location of the school and residential areas in its coverage of Pathankot attacks. After that there was story ran by Sunday Guardian which exposed NDTV’s financial misconduct and malpractices in collaboration with ICICI bank. Immediately after getting out of that controversy the founder of the NDTV Prannoy and Radhika Roy were barred by SEBI for two years after an Investigation revealed that they covered material info from shareholders regarding loan agreements and hence they couldn’t hold the management position in NDTV board.
