Amplifier PEAK protection
– To prevent the speaker from being damaged by too
much voltage to the speakers.
• The DSP compares the inputted signal and the set threshold. If the input level exceeds the
threshold level, the output signal from the DSP is compressed.
• Then, the DSP sends the GR_LF or GR_HF signal to the CPU to control the LEDs.
• Then, the LIMITER-LED lights and the front LED pulses strongly.
– When the FRONT LED DISABLE switch is ON, the front LED does NOT PULSE.

Thermal Protection
• To prevent the amplifier from damage due to overheating
– 4 steps to cool down the amplifier
1. Increase fan speed.
2. Decrease the output signal from DSP to the amplifiers by the DSP.
3. Mute the audio being sent to the power amplifiers. (/A-MUTE)

Integrating wattage for amplifier and power supply

• To prevent the amplifier and the power supply from being

damaged by the integrating electric power.
• The DSP calculates the integrated electric power and compares it with the threshold.
• When the integrated electric power is over the threshold, then the output from the
DSP is limited and the LIMITER LED lights.

 Overdrive of the amplifier
• To prevent the amplifier from being damaged by overdrive of the
power amplifier.
– The STAGEPAS monitors the electric current that flows to the FET of
the LF power amplifier. When the electric current flows too much, the
power amplifier stops.
– Without turning off and on, the protection continues to work and the
amplifier keeps to stop.

DC output protection
• To protect the speakers from the DC output from the amplifier.
– When the CPU detects DC in the speaker output, then the
STAGPAS shuts down. DC output means that the power amplifier
has been broken, the unit does not turn on automatically.

Distorted Cough with FBS – Combo E1950

 Model: STAGEPAS 400i, STAGEPAS 600i

 Symptom
Unexpected distorted sound
(like a cough) appears when
the Feedback Suppressor is on
 Cause
Software calculation overflow in
the Feedback Suppressor function
 Fix
Update firmware with Ver. 1.06 or later

Power Amp. Output Failure – Combo E1907

 Model: STAGEPAS 600i

 Symptom
No power or no sound
 Cause
FET/resistors' damage of the amplifier output circuit.
Over current detection might not enough, so the output
terminal short was not detected and protection didn’t work
 Fix
Replace the damaged FET/resistors in amplifier output; and
Replace the chip registers and the chip capacitor in
overcurrent detection circuit
 Countermeasure is taken from 2013 July production
