In this document, reference is made to the different behaviors that can occur
within the workplace and that violate the rights of the members of the labor
relationship, with emphasis on Workplace Harassment.
Workplace harassment is negative behavior between hierarchical superiors and
inferiors of a labor organization, because of which the affected person is
subjected to systematic harassment and attacks for a long time and
continuously, directly or indirectly by one or more people.
Workplace harassment is a form of torture that contaminates people's right to
work and perverts the therapeutic advantages of labor action, constituting a
disease factor that generates work phobia and great economic and competitive
losses.
More specifically, it refers to the action of one or more people from a company,
society or institution directed against a co-worker in order to get him to leave
his job, undermine his self-esteem or raise that of the bullies. We can summarize
it as psychological abuse at work, repeated and with a specific objective.
The reasons that lead some people to exercise this kind of harassment and
demolition on others are various, although not as many as there are individual
motivations. The main one, and although it may sound surprising to some, is
envy. Envy understood as jealousy of the future victim's success.
Harassment can be subtle. A helpful way to identify bullying is to consider how
others might see what is happening. This may depend, at least partially, on the
circumstances. But if most people see a specific behavior as unreasonable, it is
usually bullying. Also, existing federal and state laws only protect workers from
harassment when it involves physical harm or when the target belongs to a
protected group, such as people living with disabilities or people of color.
HOW TO IDENTIFY AND MANAGE WORKPLACE BULLYING
LUIS ALFREDO CORREA MENDOZA – 4 SEMESTRE.
Harassment in the workplace is specific, harmful behavior that occurs at work.
It can be spiteful, offensive, teasing, or intimidating. It forms a pattern and tends
to be directed at one or a few people.
In many companies superiors make totally objective and constructive types of
criticism and disciplinary action directly related to behavior or job performance
is not considered bullying.
Taking steps to prevent workplace harassment can benefit organizations and the
health of their employees. If you have been a victim of bullying, know that you
can safely take steps to combat bullying without confronting the perpetrator.
Remember to take care of your health first.
