Teacher's Day, Is It Enough?: by Christian Flores

Since the start of the recorded history, teachers and educators have been recognized and respected.
Such professions and jobs wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for our teachers. We somehow forget some
of them as we grow older but what we learned from them stays with us. Simply put, teachers are the
nurturers of each person and they are the ones who can mold each person into a responsible and
respected one. And to celebrate the sacrifices and hard works of our teachers, Teacher’s Day is held
yearly every October. But nowadays, is the said celebration enough for our teachers to feel our
gratitude and respect for them?
Some teachers all over the world are being taken for granted as their average pay is less than how much
effort they exert in their profession. Every teacher in every level of our educational attainment leave s
some of their knowledge to us not just because it is their work but because we are the future. This job
isn’t an easy task as it is a repetitive one and can cause burnout and stress for them. Teacher’s Day is
supposed to be their day, and yet some of them continues to work. Some of them chooses to work in
order to provide assistance in their family. This is just an example of how unfair our teachers are being
treated in our country. Students who aspire to be a teacher one day doubts their dream upon learn ing
how much the said profession earns. Teachers deserve to have an increase of their earnings as well as
an increase of their time to rest and have time with their family. For the day that’s meant for them, it’s
not bad to give a gift coming from the heart to show our gratitude and return the kindness they’ve given
to us in a simple way. No matter what and how small a gift is, they will appreciate that because
someone also appreciates their effort in teaching.
In the end, the sacrifice of our teachers never ends. May it be of their family or their profession, they
can’t just stop being a parent. This is one of the many reasons why people should take the Teacher’s Day
Celebration seriously. Giving a gift is one thing, but reaching your dreams is the most won derful gift they
can receive from their student. It doesn’t matter how unfair it is for them and how busy they are, as
long as they are appreciated and they are celebrated even if it’s once a year, they will be happy. For
Teacher’s Day to be enough, let us do our best in making them feel that they are loved and they are the
best second parents we have.
