M3 Post task: Critical Thinking

“Provide at least two instances where young Jose Rizal manifested liberal ideas.”

When Rizal was younger, he expressed liberal beliefs in two of his writings. The “A la juventud
filipina or to the filipino youth” described as “the fair hope of my motherland” was dedicated to
Filipino youth. The youth of the Philippines are being urged to participate in the nation-building
process. It states that the Filipino youngsters are capable of tremendous accomplishments. It
encourages young Filipinos to reach their greatest potential by putting their talents and abilities
to good use for the greater welfare of their country. The play “El Consejo de los Dioses or the
council of God”, was written to introduce the Philippines' humanistic education at the time. His
reaction to scholasticism was likewise a topic of discussion.
“Pick two Propaganda Movement contributions and objectives you think still remain very
important in today’s political climate.”

Some of the objectives achieved by La Liga Filipina as a result of the propaganda campaign are
still important in today's political environment. "Defense against all violence and injustice" is
one of La Liga Filipina's goals. We all know that in the Philippines, justice is only served to the
wealthy. Another major goal of propaganda movements is to “bring about reforms in the
Philippines”. I believe is important to still exist in today's society, but as reforms for the
Philippines as a whole, rather than as reforms for the Philippines as a colony of Spain. It would
be fantastic if big reforms were implemented for the Philippines' wellbeing, especially in light of
the next election. All of this is possible if the right leader is chosen.

“What was his “secret” mission during his stay in Europe? Was he able to fulfill that
mission? Explain how”

During his stay in Europe, his covert objective was to observe life and culture, languages,
customs, industries, as well as the European nation's government and laws. To prepare himself
for the monumental job of rescuing his oppressed people from the Spaniards. For Philippine
reforms, not for absolute independence, but to make the Philippines a province of Spain. As a
result, Spaniards' privileges will be extended to Filipinos, who will be treated equally. He was
unable to complete his purpose. Shortly after founding the La Liga Filipina, he was captured and
exiled to Dapitan, and others who attempted to resurrect the organization were unsuccessful. And
a new movement called Katipunan was formed, with a different goal than the propaganda
movement: Philippines independence from Spain.
