AISI/SAE 4130, hot rolled or forged solid or bored round bars, square bars and rings, H2S Service, quenched and
tempered to API Spec.6A.- PSL 3-4 and ISO 15156 (NACE MR 0175).
Material Class: DD, EE (Sour Service (H2S Service) as defined in ISO 15156 (NACE MR 0175).
Material Designation: 75K (75,000 psi mini yield strength)
Temperature Rating: K (Temperature operating range: - 60 / + 82 °C (- 75 / + 180 °F))

Manufacturing process condition
Melting Process
Electric arc furnace including refining and vacuum degassing.
Steel shall be fully killed and a fine grain melting practice shall be used
Heat treatment: Furnace shall be calibrated in accordance with API Spec. 6A recommended procedures.
♦ Normalization at 1625 to 1700 °F (886 - 926 °C) for 30 minutes mini per inch bar diameter holding time and
air cooled.
♦ Austenitization at 1575 to 1625 °F (858 – 885 °C) for 15 minutes mini per inch bar diameter holding time and
quench in water.
♦ Quenching in water . Temperature of water shall not exceed 100°F (38°C) at start nor exceed 120°F (50°C)
at finish
♦ Tempering at 1200°F to 1300°F (649°C to 704°C) for 30 minutes mini per inch bar diameter holding time to
achieve the required hardness
Finish and Appearance
Hot Rolled Bars: Hot rolled mill finished
Forged Bars: Turned or peeled before quenching and tempering
Square bars: The four sides are pre-machined and both ends saw cut.
Rings: Rings are produced from forging, OD turned after normalization, then quenched and tempered,
straightened, bored and ends pre-machined
Mechanical properties: to ASTM A370, and API Spec. 6A
Test Coupon (QTC): The test coupon is a round solid bar of diameter 5” mini and 10” length.
The QTC has the same heat and heat treated lot as the material it qualifies and run in
production as per API 6A
Tensile Test: Longitudinal, at 21 ± 3 °C (70 ± 5 °F)

Impact Test:
Longitudinal to ASTM A 370, Charpy V notch, at - 75°F (- 60°C)
Minimum average value of three tests 27 J (20 ft-lbs) with no single value less than 20 J (15 ft-lbs)
Minimum lateral expansion is 0,38 mm (0.015”)
Surface Hardness on Products
Surface hardness: 207 HBW mini and 240 HBW maxi.
