CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
In this part of the research this will provide discussion of the Background of the Project,

Purpose and Description, Scope and Delimitations of the Project, Significance of the Study.

Background of the Project

The SARS-CoV-2 or much more known as the Coronavirus disease has been plaguing the

country for 2 years. Many have died and many have fallen ill. It has also been a great threat to

business owners since people are on quarantine or simply have not been going out of their houses

because of fear of getting infected. Therefore, a lot of business establishments are forced to shut

down.

The Pandemic has killed of roughly an estimated 37,405 of people in the Philippines and

many more will die if we do not follow safety protocols and get the necessary vaccine, we most

likely need. The Pandemic is not going anytime soon but according to The World Health

Organization. The Covid19 will be much more manageable in 2022. But even so, we still need to

be careful and follow protocols especially in public places.

Despite the Pandemic, people need to go to public establishments and enterprises for all

sorts of purposes. Shopping necessities like food and basic hygiene, entertainment and doctor

visitations. This poses a risk even with mask and face shields on because people who are

asymptomatic who don’t know that they are asymptomatic can enter the establishments undented

when it comes to temperature monitoring which is usually present in the entrances of most
establishments nowadays. Thus, they can unknowingly be spreading the virus through various

surfaces of the establishments.

Public Establishments may had provided a limit to which a number of people may enter at

the establishment but this doesn’t change the fact that asymptomatic people can still enter the

establishment. And if this were a solution then the number of cases should have decreased. To

deal with this situation, the team of Lancel Paul Guarin, Jaypee Alamer and Kennelyn Gonzales

proposed to develop a Web and Mobile based Logs Recorder System that will provide a quick and

reliable way of maintaining and preventing people who are suspected to have covid 19, whether it’s

asymptomatic or not.

The 21st century is filled with computerized system much more advanced compared to the

last decade and the technology available will aid human in their jobs and provide security. Such

examples are business with CCTV cameras equipped with an alarm system and automated

machines which has a tighter security protection. But a logs recorder machine can also be used as

a form of security especially in today’s pandemic.

A Logs Recording system basically records attendance in determining the actual count of

the individuals that are present. This is usually used in jobs and school attendance but the concept

of the Logs Recording will be used in this study to heavily keep track of individuals accurately and

securely as compared to conventional use of using a log book to record logs

The importance of a Logs recording system is to accurately monitor individuals. And with

the use of a system, it is less likely to falsify or pretend to be another person when recording logs

through conventional means.

Purpose and Description

The research aims to develop a Logs-Recording System for the Establishments of

Sorsogon City. The system is an online web and mobile – based application that provides the

people of Sorsogon province their own unique QR code. The QR code will be used upon entrance

and exit in an affiliated establishments but people cannot enter if they are infected, high

temperature or had not finished their quarantine duration.

Specific Objectives

The proposed Web and Mobile – Based Covid Logs Recording System has these specific

objectives:

a. To develop a monitoring system that knows the whereabouts of a registered residents or

non – resident if they are within affiliated establishments:

b. To provide a built in Establishment Management System that will record the

establishments upon registering it by the establishment owners;

c. To generate QR code for the establishment owner, residents, non – residents of Sorsgon

that works with other affiliated establishments;

d. To automate the generation of reports for the contact tracer and Sorsogon LGU;

They should have a one-to-one correspondence to the conclusions you will make in
Chapter 5
Scope and Delimitations of the Project

The Monitoring System will allow the establishment owner and the admins to track and

monitor the people who are inside the affiliated establishments. These includes the time of

monitoring and the address within the establishment. This also includers personal details like the

name, home address and travel history. The data gathered will be then archived and saved in the

database. The saved data is highly confidential and will not be used in other mean except if

another co-system is asking for it. The certain individual will not be monitored if they are outside of

the affiliated establishment.

The built in Establishment Management System is integrated within the system and is used

when establishment owners want to register their establishment into the system via PIN map

location. This is done online and it requires an internet connection. This built in Establishment

Management System also provides the establishment owners reliable data visualization on how

many visitors had enter the establishment.

The system will generate one QR code for resident and non-residents of Sorsogon. To be

able to secure a QR code, users must first provide a photo legitimate ID that will be processed by

the system. This can be done by using the mobile application of the system and the users may

register within the app. The QR code provided will work with other affiliated establishments and it is

must be scanned upon entrance and exit. The QR code generated for non-residents of Sorsogon

will have a validation of 30 days and cannot be used upon entrance unless non residents file in

another request of a QR code. People who have symptoms of covid 19 or suspected to have one

will not be allowed to enter the establishment even if they have a QR code. Then their health status
information will be updated and their QR code will be flagged by the system the system will send

an SMS notification about the update.

The system will generate can generate weekly reports of the information acquired from the

reports and these includes the residents and non – residents and their personal info, their travel

history and health status and will be sent to contact tracers and to the Sorsogon LGU.

Significance of the Project

Establishment Owners – The system will provide Establishment Owners a good reputation

because of being affiliated with the Logs Recorder System. The system will also add a layer of

protection in their establishment.

Contact Tracer – The system will provide local contact tracers easy access to individuals

so that when they are suspected of covid19 the contact tracer can easily find out where they leave.

LGU – The system will provide the LGU the necessary data when individuals are going to

apply for a QR code. And since the system helps with the prevention of covid through logs

recording this will mitigate some of the work for the LGU when it comes to covid prevention. Also,

the involvement of the LGU ensures that the ID used and personal info given will be legitimate.

Sorsogon Residents – The system will provide the citizens an added layer of protection and

peace of mind when they go to an affiliated establishment. The system ensures that all visitors of

an affiliated establishments will use their QR code upon entrance and exit.
Non Sorsogon Residents – The system will also provide a QR code for non-residents and

outsiders of Sorsogon province. But the QR code will have an expiration of 30 days. This is to

identify the residents from the non – residents.

Future Researchers – The study will aid future researchers’ software development with

similar topic and will allow them to improve this system.

Definition of Terms

Covid 19

Covid19 is a highly infectious disease caused by the strain of a novel coronavirus 2

(SARS-CoV-2). People infected can experience mild to moderate respiratory illness or pneumonia.

Those with strong immunity can recover from the infection but older people will have a harder time

recovering (“Covid 19”, 2020).

QR Code

It is short for quick response code. It is a 2 – dimensional barcode that can be

read using a barcode scanner or camera – enabled smartphone with a QR reader software. QR

code can be used to display text, provide contact data or even open a webpage (“Beal”, 2011).
Web and mobile based covid log recorder for establishments

A system that utilizes and is present in both in the Web(internet) and as a mobile

application the records the entrance and exit of people when entering affiliated establishments

using QR code.

Database

According to Webopedia, it is a collection of information organized in such a way

that a computer program can quickly select desired pieces of data (Beal, 1996).

SMS

According to Webopedia, it is the transmission of short text messages to and from

a mobile phone, fax, machine and/or IP address. Messages must be no longer than 160 alpha-

numeric characters and contain no image or graphics (Beal, 1999).

Contact Tracer

According to CDC, A non – licensed public health professional providing support to

a health department in the fight against COVID-19. The contact tracer is responsible for reaching

out to people(contacts) who have been exposed to COVID-19 and providing health education and

guidance to interrupt ongoing disease transmission (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

(CDC), 2020)
System

According to Webopedia, A system in computing is a general term for computer or

other piece of technology and all of its dependencies. System encompasses all working parts that

are required to run a technical process (Beal, 2003)

CHAPTER 2: REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
This chapter describes the reviewed literature and studies that had been conducted by

other foreign and local researchers which holds important aspects to this study.

Foreign Literature

According to the Literature “There’s an App for that: Mobile Procedure Logging Application

using Quick Response Codes” states that many Emergency Residents are required to accurately

log all procedures but not many procedures either not logged or logged inaccurately(Folt et al.,

2021).This is the cause of human error and the use of traditional methods of logging. Thus, the

designation of a mobile procedure logging application that mainly uses the portability of a QR code.

The system uses a log database for retrieving and containing information of registered patients.

With the scanning of the QR code it can quickly get the necessary information of patients resulting

in the decrease time of traditional log procedures while eliminating inaccurate data or logs.

According to the literature “Evaluation of the QR Code Fabric System for Textile

Companies in Turkey” the use of the QR Code in the system is conveniency and Identification. It

can also be used as a bridge for marketing fabrics since QR code can be used to bring customers

to the social media page of the fabric (Ozyazgan et al., 2016). It also proves that the use of QR

code in the system provides easy way to access information of the fabrics labeled with a unique

QR code. The QR code labels can be printed through the QR code Fabric Tag website. If a fabric

is scanned with a QR code scanner in a mobile device, then that will lead the user who scanned

the QR code to the QR code tag website with all the information about that fabric.
According to the literature “Implementing QR Codes in Academia to Improve Sample

Tracking, Data Accessibility, Traceability in Multicampus Interdisciplinary Collaborations”,

academic institutions nowadays have a number multicampus and this resorts into a problem. Thus,

the implementation of this system in which it tracks interdisciplinary projects for tracking,

fabrication, and quality control of bioelectronic devices (Hernandez et al., 2021). The use for such

system it because of covid 19 and those people with travel restriction. The system acts as an

inventory system and a tracking system and can work with other affiliated campuses since the

system is made to work with multicampus. The system co-works with an open-source mobile

application that enables users to either update on their phone or on computers.

According to the literature “Tracking Vulnerable People Using Body Worn QR Code”, there

is a rise of technology and the popularity of the QR code in today’s age. And with that comes with

the implementation of QR Code in aiding security purposes to people. The QR Code is combined

into a Hash QR Code (HQR Code) in which It uses hash function. Inside the HQR code, a user’s

Personally Identifiable Information(PII) is hashed to safeguard privacy and stored for tracking

purposes(Sharad et al., 2018). The study also implemented SHA-1 because it produces a secure

shorter hash value. Vulnerable people can put their QR code on a shirt and can be scanned by law

enforcement. It will then be scanned and doing that will send the scanner to the QR code tracking

website where it will reveal their location, the information will be used to map that person on map.
Figure 1.0: Pre – processing for QR Code Generation
Figure 2.0: Use Case Diagram of QR Code Tracking System

According to the literature “Visitor Management and User Mobile Notification Using Web –

based and Android OS”, manual visitor management is most common in companies nowadays. But

it may come not efficient when it must report annually or decades, since there are so many data

from 1st January until 3rd December, it may not come easy when it comes down to reporting.

System consists of a web and mobile application. The visitors and the security guard will use web

application wherein the host will use the mobile application and the host can provide a notification

for the visitor through their phone that they have started the visitation(Ozyazgan et al., 2016).

According to the literature “Implementation of QR Code and Imei on Android and Web –

based Student Presence Systems”, presence system is one of the most important component in

the lecture process (Hermanto et al., 2018). Also, the implementation of IMEI which is a unique

number for identifying a device on a mobile network (Beal, 1999). This is to prevent cheating of
attendance and also tightens the security because other than the owner, other phones cannot be

used as a substitute for their attendance, making the presence system fool proof.

According to the Literature “A QR Code–Based Contact Tracing Framework for Sustainable

Containment of COVID-19”, Evaluation of an Approach to Assist the Return to Normal Activity”,

covid 19 has resulted in millions of confirmed cases and hundreds of thousands of deaths

worldwide (Nakamoto et al., 2020).With the use of the QR code, the researchers of the literature

provided a symptom and color based QR code. The Green QR code notes that a person is safe

while the orange QR code notes that a person is infected with covid. Individuals must present their

QR code in important locations such as public structures and transportation sites. Overall, the

system aids the identification and isolation of cases at an earlier stage and generates delay – free

cooperation of individuals and institution.

According to the Literature” A Mobile based Smart Attendance System Framework for

Tracking Field Personals Using a Novel QR Code Based Technique”, tracking of a person for

official purpose is a tiresome task(Navin et al., 2018). The researchers of the topic proposed a

system that can be implemented in hospitals and companies. It is composed of a web portal and a

mobile application and features QR Code as a way to register attendance. The mobile application

is both used by the recipients and the attendance provider. The attendee must have a registered
account in order to have their own QR code which can be then scanned the attendance provider.

recipients’ information such as logs and personal data used for registering into the application will

then be saved into the web portal’s database.

Figure 3.1: Shows the swim lane flow chart diagram representing flow of the smart

attendance system framework

According to the literature “Location – aware event Attendance System using QR Code and

GPS Technology”, attendance process in a university’s event is time consuming and tracking the

attendance can be harder (Ayop et al., 2018). The system is composed of a system database and

a mobile application and this mobile application is then used to present QR codes and scan QR

codes. The team of the research proposed a system that will manage the attendance of the

students within the three campuses of the said university with the implementation of a QR code
and a GPS feature. With the use of the mobile application student, students can scan the QR code

of their class to record their attendance. The system however, is only applicable with android

devices.

Figure 4.1: System Architecture

According to the literature “Mobile based Attendance Management System”, India has

been modernizing in recent years in recent years due to the development and penetration of

information technology therefore the objective of the research is to enforce some of the emerging

technologies like mobile computing, Information and Communication technology (Somasundaram

et al., 2016). VB.NET and SQL Server was used during the development of the web system while

the mobile application was made for android and used java as its programming language. The

mobile application has the feature to check attendance, calculate grades and provide report

generation.
Figure 5.1: Overall System Design

For figures, use the following format Bumper Spotlight

Figures should be centered. The List of Figures must be

automatically generated. Figure label must at bottom of the

figure.

Figure 0-1. From "References" > Insert caption > Figure

All figures must have a narrative.

Local Literature
According to the literature “Automated Student Record System for the Guidance Office of

Jose Rizal Memorial State University-Katipunan, Campus Katipunan, Zamboanga Del Norte

Philippines” problem on the administration of student records of colleges and universities is more

complex because the scale of recruited graduate students expands (Norte & Habagat, 2020). Also,

the Guidance Office of Jose Rizal Memorial State still uses traditional way of record managing like

storing and retrieving. Therefore, the researchers provided an automated system that handles the

recording of the student’s information and their psychological test results the system also

generates reports and papers such as admission slips, good moral certificate and referral slips.

According to the literature “Computerized Record Management System of one National

High School in the Philippines”, computer information technology is concerned with the

development, management, and use of computers and software to manage data. The researchers

have provided a computerized record management so that it can make things easier and efficient.

The Computerized Record Management is essential to the operation of the student’s accounts and

to the operation of the student’s accounts and to the provision of services to users (Phillip Danlog

et al., 2017). This includes management of the student’s, print papers like providing the list of

employee and students with their ID numbers automate report of grades and subjects. The security

measure of the system is both provided with software and physical feature. The database server is
in the principal’s office while the system itself has an administered password in which authorized

personnel are the only ones who can use the system.

Figure 6.1: Data Flow Diagram

According to the literature “Efficacy of Scan Attendance Manager Application Using Quick

Response Code in Dagohoy National High School, Bohol, Philippine”, the study is aimed to see the

efficiency of the said system. One of the most useful gadgets anyone is using nowadays is the

smartphone (Caingcoy, 2020). Therefore, comes the implementation of the Scan Attendance

manager. Teachers will have a mobile version of the system and can scan QR codes embedded

into student’s ID therefore recording the attendance. The system can also be used to track

attendance other than class attendance. This may include events and meetings. The system also

provides SMS notification to notify parents of the students that they have their attendance in real-

time.

According to the literature “The features of Quick Response (QR) Code as an Attendance

Monitoring System: It’s Acceptability and Implication to Classroom”, integration of QR Code when it

comes to the attendance monitoring system is highly successful based on the evaluation of

teachers mentioned in the study. Application of the QR code saves time and therefore more

teaching affiliated time for the teachers to use. QR codes are also environment friendly since it can

be produced without the need of paper. It is also more effective in detecting absentees for large
amount of student in classes. Though this system has been done for years this idea is very new in

the public school system (Maleriado et al., 2019).

Figure 7.1: Arbitrary Scale and Verbal Interpretation of the Data

Figure 8.1: Evaluation of the Attendance Monitoring System Using QR Code

According to the literature “Using Automated Contact Tracing System App with QR Code to

Monitor and safeguard Parishioners against COVID-19 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Subic,

Zambales”, St. Anthony De Padua Parish is situated at the heart of barangay, Matain, Subic

Zambales, which contains a population of more than 10,000 people. Contact Tracing during church

service takes too long, and along with logging and the checking of temperature (D. Mobo & Liza R.

Garcia, 2020). The researchers of the said literatures provide an automated contact tracing app.

The QR Code will be generated to the church goers with their own QR code with their personal info

embedded. And this allow church goers to go through the church without having to log in manually

because their QR code will just be scanned thus saving time.

The “Android-based Classroom monitoring System for Teacher using QR Code

Technology”, states that the purpose of the study is to create the system for the Android ecosystem

and utilize the effectiveness of the QR code. The system mentioned can read QR code using

smartphone, save attendance data in the local server, and can retrieve class schedule information

from the local server. The use of JavaScript Object Notation deemed useful in the overall system.

This includes the QR Code scanning, saving and retrieval of data. These goals was successfully

implemented by the following the development process used in the study using Android

programming technology specially the JSON technology as import library or the dependencies

used(Sobejana & Susada, 2021).

Figure 7.1: Process Flow in Saying Present

According to the literature “Quick Response Code Attendance System with SMS Location

Tracker” manual attendance monitoring results in a lot of time. The data on school attendance

gives basic information about the quality of the school and in many countries, school budgets are

based on the average daily attendance at school Thus, the implementation of the proposed

system. Since QR Codes are easy to produce and offers the ability store a great amount of data

and all most of any kind. The system is able to track attendance and the location of the students by

scanning the QR Code of students. The QR Code scanner is its own separate device meaning a

smartphone cannot be used to scan QR codes. The QR can track time and send SMS location

while the location tracker (embedded into the student’s ID) tracks location and can provide SMS

notification. The system website is where teachers can manage the attendance and class while the

mobile application provides a map viewer and it can be used to register other location

tracker(Casunuran et al., 2020).

Figure 8.1: System flow chart of the Attendance QR Code Scanner

Figure 9.1: System flowchart of the ID Location Tracker

The “Web-based Attendance Monitoring System” states that one of the problems in

educational institutions is the students’ irregular attendance. Manual attendance with the use of

pen and paper is time consuming. The researchers prepared a web-based attendance monitoring

system that is able to provide wireless features with the use of the raspberry Pi. This involves using

an RFID tag in which the students’ flow wirelessly in the server. The system also provides SMS

notification and generation of report(Epifelward Niño O Amora et al., 2020).The research

methodology used in this study was Agile: Scrum methodology in which task are broken down into

separate phases in which consistent team effort is needed.

According to the literature “UIC Bonifacio Visitor Tracking System”, the conventional way of

approving visitors to enter compounds is presenting valid ID and need to login. But the visitor’s info

is not really verified if that information they wrote in the logbook is true. That is why the researchers

provided a system that can track visitors in real time. This includes the use of an RFID system. The

system also has a GUI that shows the map and works well with the RFID nodes and RFID tags.

The GUI can be accessed through desktop, tablets and smartphones trough an internet

browser(Borlio et al., n.d.).

Figure 10.1: Technical flowchart of uic visitor tracking system

The “Digital Attendance and Accomplishment Report monitoring System” states that Covid-

19 almost stopped every normal activity that a human like jobs, classes and social activities. But
this does not stop the employees of Bohol Island State University-Candijay campus from its juties.

They still have to work from home and provide attendance via Google forms. But there is not way

of verifying if the attendance was legitimate or not and not even those daily attendance cannot be

monitored daily. Therefore, the researchers of this study provided attendance and accomplishment

monitoring system. The system contains a mobile application and a desktop system. The mobile

application is where employees can time in and time out and view their daily time record. An

employee cannot time out if there are no project accomplishment report. While the desktop system

shows the list of registered employees, their information and has viable option to add, edit or delete

an employee(E N O Amora et al., 2021).

Synthesis of the State-of-the-Art

Group similar literature and discuss their similarities. Mention that your current study is at

par with the literature aforementioned.

The literatures entitled; “A QR Code–Based Contact Tracing Framework for Sustainable

Containment of COVID-19”, Evaluation of an Approach to Assist the Return to Normal Activity”,

“Implementing QR Codes in Academia to Improve Sample Tracking, Data Accessibility,

Traceability in Multicampus Interdisciplinary Collaborations”, “Implementing QR Codes in

Academia to Improve Sample Tracking, Data Accessibility, Traceability in Multicampus

Interdisciplinary Collaborations”, “Using Automated Contact Tracing System App with QR Code to

Monitor and safeguard Parishioners against COVID-19 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Subic,

Zambales” have similar discussions when it comes to the development of such application with the

intent to ease the effect of the covid 19 into the people’s lives.
Similarly, the literatures entitled; “Evaluation of the QR Code Fabric System for Textile

Companies in Turkey”, and “Tracking Vulnerable People Using Body Worn QR Code”, also

provided information of Quick Response Code outside of covid related systems.

The literatures entitled; “Visitor Management and User Mobile Notification Using Web –

based and Android OS”, “Implementation of QR Code and Imei on Android and Web – based

Student Presence Systems”, “A Mobile based Smart Attendance System Framework for Tracking

Field Personals Using a Novel QR Code Based Technique”, “Mobile based Attendance

Management System”, “The features of Quick Response (QR) Code as an Attendance Monitoring

System: It’s Acceptability and Implication to Classroom”, “Android-based Classroom monitoring

System for Teacher using QR Code Technology”, literature “Quick Response Code Attendance

System with SMS Location Tracker”, had similar discussion upon the use attendance monitoring

and visitor monitoring. These require attendance information is needed to obtain in order to call in a

“log”. All literatures (except “Visitor Management and User Mobile Notification Using Web – based

and Android OS”) provided the use of a QR Code in their system.

Similarly, the literature entitled; “Efficacy of Scan Attendance Manager Application Using

Quick Response Code in Dagohoy National High School, Bohol, Philippine”, “Quick Response

Code Attendance System with SMS Location Tracker”, “Web-based Attendance Monitoring

System”, “Mobile based Attendance Management System”,” A Mobile based Smart Attendance

System Framework for Tracking Field Personals Using a Novel QR Code Based Technique” all

implemented the use of an SMS notification feature.

The literatures and studies mentioned in this research show the similarities and differences

in terms of module and functions of the system. All the studies are similar to this current study

when it comes to the involvement of QR code and system which retrieve and save attendance and

presence logs. Some also made use of the GPS tracking location which will be improved upon in

this current study. The current study focuses on systems in which will be used during in this time of

the pandemic of covid 19. Such the management of logs and presence within establishments to

prevent the spread of covid and the use of the GPS to track individuals and for the registration of

establishment. The current study also makes use of SMS notification and automation of reports in

which a lot of studies use it as topic in some of the studies and literature.

Bridging the Gap

Mention the unique features and contribution of your study to the body of knowledge.

Several studies of attendance monitoring web-based system were already made and

published. Systems that are covid related had already began surfacing and their features varies

among one another. We, the researchers of “Web and Mobile based Log Recorder for

Establishments” is the culmination of improvement of attendance system with regards that it will be

used on establishment such as malls, stores and restaurants. The system also uses pin map

location so that establishment owners can register their establishment with ease. The system has

distinct similarities with other related literature regarding the use of QR Code. Additionally, the

system is available in Apple and Android OS and provides SMS notification when notifying and

informing about covid symptoms and alerts within establishments.
