Dedication
In this first situation, the researchers, will dedicate this kind of experiment or
product to; first is for God. Our Almighty god created the environment that god
love its creation including us. For God so love the world, God created humans to
protect the environment. Second is for the society. The researchers know that some
of humanities want to protect our environment while some of them don’t care
about protecting it, that’s why the researchers dedicate it so that we can make
balance between humans and plants. Lastly, is for the family or for the parents. Our
parents always choose for the best, and our parents taught us to do what is right,
that is why the researchers chose this product or experiment.
Acknowledgement
Also, the researchers would like to thank Teacher Danica Cabias and
whoever created this Science Investigatory Project. In this situation. We, the
researchers, learned a lot from step by step, from chapter 1 to 5, and the
experiment that we chose. And Lastly, thank you Lord for having this time.
Chapter I
Introduction
This chapter contains Background of the Study, Statement of the problem, Significance of the study,
Hypothesis, and Definition of Terms.
We chose this problem because we can make a plant easier to grow by using banana peel fertilizer.
We chose banana peel as fertilizer because we can prove that it can grow faster without using toxic
materials. We Believe that Banana Peel Fertilizer can make a plant grow faster
because a Musa or commonly known as Banana contain a high amount of vitamin B6 and B12, as well as
Magnesium and Potassium and We also chose this problem because it is cheaper the
According to Antonius Musa, Bananas are the fruit of Musa Acuminata, he was the
personal physician to Roman emperor Octavius Augustus, and it was he who was credited for
promoting cultivation of the exotic African fruit from 63 to 14 B.C. Portuguese sailors brought
bananas to Europe from West Africa in the early 15 th century. Its Guinean name banema, which
became banana in English, was first found in print in the 17th century.
Statement of the Problem
1. What important factors does the Banana peel have that makes it become as a fertilizer for
plants?
2. Can the Banana peel fertilizer do a better job compared to the commercial ones?
3. Can the Banana peel Fertilizer protect the plant from getting infested with pests?
4. How many days will it take for the plants to grow when using Banana Peel fertilizer?
5. What are the other Benefits of Banana and How much will it cost to conduct this project?
Banana Peel Fertilizer can help a lot of people. In fact, it can also help the environment. People
whose hobby is gardening will be able to use this product since this project is a piece of cake. This can
also help people to save money since the ingredients are very cheap.
Therefore, you can make your flowers and plants bloom beautifully, can save money, and help to
save the earth.
This study was conducted in HSIS during academic year 2018-2019. The study focused on the
effect of the Banana Peel Fertilizer to any kinds of plants.
Scope and Limitations
The main focus of this project is to see whether the Banana peel fertilizer will be able to act as an
alternative to the stone-bought fertilizers or not. In order to conduct this project, the researchers will
be needing materials for the project and research for additional information about the project.
Hypothesis
Definition of Terms
Pests – an animal or insect that causes problems for people by damaging crops.
Acuminata – means long pointed or tapering, not referring to the fruit, but to the
Research – careful study that is done to find and report new Knowledge about
something.

Chapter II
This chapter contains Related Literature and Studies showing the past and present article surrounding
the use of Fertilizer.
Related Literature
According to history, Fertilizers (also spelled fertilisers) are compounds given to plants to
promote growth. Organized research into fertilizer began in the early 17 th century. Modern synthetic
fertilizers are composed of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium compounds and secondary nutrients are
calcium, sulfur, magnesium. Nitrogen is used by plants for producing leaf growth and greener, lusher
leaves. The second number in a fertilizer content is phosphorus. Phosphorus is used by plants to increase
fruit development and to produce a strong root system. And the third number in a fertilizer content is
potassium. Potassium is used by plants for flower color and size. It is also important to the strength of the
plant. While manure (animal dung or “pataba”) has been used to improve crops for centuries, the
fertilizers were arguably one of the greatest innovations of the Agricultural Revolution of the 19 th century.
Bananas were originally found in South East Asia, mainly in India. They were brought west by Arab
conquerors in 327 B.C. and moved from Asia Minor to Africa and finally carried to the New World by the
first explorers and missionaries to the Caribbean. The mass production of bananas started in 1834 and
really started exploding in the late 1880’s. The word banana is thought to be of West African origin,
possibly from the world Wolof word banana, and passed into English via Spanish or Portuguese.
Foreign Studies
According to Francis Bacon and Johann Gaubler, they describe the beneficial effects of the
addition of saltpeter to soil. Gaubler developed the first complete mineral fertilizer, which was a mixture of
saltpeter, lime, phosphoric acid, nitrogen and potash. As scientific chemical theories developed, the
chemical needs of plants were discovered, which led to improved fertilizer compositions.
Organic chemist Justus Von Liebig (1803 – 1873), he contributed greatly to the advancement in the
understanding of plant nutrition. His influential works first denounced the vitalist(life) theory of humus
(components of soil), means arguing first the importance of ammonia (NH3), and later
promoting the importance of inorganic minerals to plant nutrition.Primarily Liebig’s work succeeded in
exposition of questions for agricultural science to address over the next 50 years. In England, he attempted
to implement his theories commercially through a fertilizer created by treating phosphate of lime in bone
meal with sulfuric acid.
The genus Musa (banana) was created by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. The name may be derived from
Antonius Musa (Augustus’ physician) or Linnaeus may have adapted the Arabic word for banana, mauz.
The old biological name Musa sapientum = “Muse of the wise” arose
Local Studies
According to this study, in the past, fertilizer has made a tremendous contribution to agricultural
transformation. David and Balisacan (1981) summarize the post-war history of the fertilizer industry up to
the 1970s. During the 1950s, the fertilizer industry was regarded as a “new and necessary” industry
exempted from taxes and custom duties.
Philippines is the second largest exporter of bananas after Ecuador, with some 2.6 m tonnes
exported in 2012. That year, the experts from the Philippines (essentially Cavendish cultivars) made up
98% of the Asian banana trade. 2/3 of the exported volumes were shipped to Japan, China and South
Korea.
The related literature and the past studies helped the researchers to have an idea about to the current
study. It also supports the result and it serves as a foundation of the proposed study. It helps the
researchers to gather valuable data that can guide the researchers in our research. The review of related
literature and studies are essential to make sure that you are not repeating the work that someone has
already done earlier. And this also helps us to locate more sources of information related to our study or
research.

Chapter III
Methodology
This chapter includes the materials that the researchers will use, Methods of research used, Sources of
data, and Data gathering procedure
Materials:
In this chapter, the method that the researchers used to conduct this research is experimental method.
The experimental method is a systematic and scientific approach to research in which the researcher
manipulates one or more variables, and controls and measures any change in other variables.
Experimental method is the applicable way to manage our research because through experimenting, the
researchers will know whether this product will support our hypothesis.
Sources of Data
There are two types of sources, Primary and Secondary. A primary source is an original source that
documents an event in time, a person or an idea.Secondary sources involve analysis, synthesis,
interpretation, or evaluation of primary sources. They often attempt to describe or explain primary
sources.
In this research, the researchers use secondary sources such as journal articles that analyses research. The
researchers get this idea from an article in the internet that is about life hacks that can help to make a
thing productive than throwing it away.
Data Gathering Procedure
First of all, the researchers chose this product through curiosity. The researchers want to know and glad to
you to know what is the beneficial effects and significance to every thing that matters and a product that
can help our environment even a little.
The Researchers chose Banana peel as fertilizer so that the researchers can recycle it and not to
waste it. Our goal is to simply make the plant grow faster. Plants help to produce a gas called oxygen so
that we can breathe properly. Furthermore, plants can also reduce indoor
pollution and save energy. Plants absorbs toxin and can improve indoor air quality. And if we
plant more and grow more plants, we can help and improve the environment once again.
In this data, the researchers will make a step by step procedure in Banana Peel Fertilizer;
there are 2 types, such that banana peel spray and planting banana peel. In banana
peel, the researchers prepare first our material which water, pot, soil, and our main ingredient is the
banana peel. In this procedure, the researchers did was composting.
o Step I
The researchers chop the banana peel into small pieces and put it in the soil.As they decompose,
banana peels add potassium as well as small amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and magnesium to the soil
in a similar fashion as a slow-release fertilizer.
o Step II
wait for the banana to decompose.Because it is essential for good root and shoot growth,
phosphorus lends to overall plant strength. Calcium – Calcium is another nutrient important for
proper root and stem development. It helps with the breakdown of other necessary nutrients in the soil
like nitrogen.

Chapter IV
In this chapter presents the Analysis and Interpretation of data collected, in order to draw the
Observations
In this chapter, the researchers plant seeds into two (2) pots so that we can observe and
compare which fertilizer could grow a plant faster, more nutrients, and the effectiveness. A commercial
fertilizer or our product, Banana Peel Fertilizer. Let us observe the first table.
Commercial NPK
Ones 20% Effective 7-8 days (Nitrogen,
Phosphorus,
Potassium)
Commercial Fertilizers is a substance containing one or more recognized plant nutrients and that is used for
its plant nutrient content or that is designated for use or claimed to have value in
promoting plant growth. Commercial fertilizers also include lime, gypsum, and manipulated animal and
vegetable manures.
In comparing effectivity, Banana Peel Fertilizer is more effective than a commercial one. Fruits
contain a high amount of antioxidants that are beneficial to our plants in many ways.
According from our experiment, Banana Peel Fertilizer took 5-6 days to make a plant grow
perfectly. However, a commercial ones took 7-8 days or a week.
Commercial
ones
According to the second table, the researchers finalized which fertilizer has good advantage.
Banana Peel Fertilizer has more good nutrients, shorter days to grow, and more effective than the other.
We just prove that Banana Peel Fertilizer is better than the commercial one.
Statement of the Problem
1. What important factors does the Banana peel have that makes it become as a fertilizer
for plants?
2. Can the Banana peel fertilizer do a better job compared to the commercial ones?
3. Can the Banana peel Fertilizer protect the plant from getting infested with pests?
4. How many days will it take for the plants to grow when using Banana Peel fertilizer?
According to the table, it will took 5-6 days, faster than commercial ones. Most
plants need fertilizer to grow and blossom, and nitrogen is a key nutrient. In fact, banana
peels not only carry large amounts of potassium and phosphorus, but they are also a good source
of magnesium, sulfur, calcium and nitrogen.
5. What are the other Benefits of Banana and How much will it cost to conduct this project?
Bananas contain powerful antioxidants. Again, It is high in vitamins B6, B12, magnesium
and potassium. In conducting this project. You just need a pot, a decomposed
banana peel, seeds, and a water. In this project, you do not have to worry about it. Thus, we can
improve our environment and maintain our environment.

Chapter V
Summary of findings
Conclusion
Conclusion is based on the findings of the study; it is briefly short but conveys all the important
information.
The Researchers can verify these words that Banana peel fertilizer or our product can make the
plants grow faster. Simply follow the procedures in making the fertilizer. We learned many things that this
product can protect the environment and the next generation of humans. A small act is worth a million
thoughts, it also gives a moral value to the society by saving our mother nature
Recommendation
Recommendation is where we recommend the product or where the product has more
effectiveness.
The Researchers recommend and share it not just in every city, but in most populated and
polluted places. One of the recommended places here in the Philippines is Manila. Manila is very polluted
area because of too much vehicles, human populations, and smoking. We recommend the place so that
the pollution could less and help the ozone layer to become thicker.
The Researchers recommend this product to the farmers who likely to plant and helps to save the
environment. And also, The Researchers recommend to the parents who love planting so that it may have
benefits to the environment.
