BACKGROUND OF STUDY

Education is a important to all students and this way to success.


Education can develop the other skills of students. It can help education for our future
and applied for life. Education is help to expand our knowledge, values, skills and
more. However, learners can also educate themselves. In education in stills in us the
value of hard work while also assisting us in our development and growth. When it
comes to being self- sufficient, the value of education is obvious. A good Education
is the most effective weapon you can have, and it can help you achieve all of your
goals. There are exceptions, depending on your ambitions, but in general, an
education will go you as far as you’re willing to go. Not only can education protect
you financially, but it can also assist you avoid being taken advantage of by
understanding how to read and write.

Many impacts of social media in academic. Teenagers and children using social
media could destroy their lives and have a negative impact on their schooling.
Student attention and concentration of students towards activities which are not
educational. Students are among the most active users of the internet and social
media. Overuse of social media can affect a student’s academic, social and health.
Many students do not participate fully in class or group project discussions. Even
face to face communication with their classmates is not preferred by some of them.
For such students, participating in online learning or modular learning exchanges on
social media is simple and comfortable. Social media use in widespread among all
age groups, from children to the elderly, due to its simplicity of use, speed, and
reach. Social media has revolutionized the way we communicate, bringing us closer
than we’ve ever been before. Students, including children, teenagers, and adults, have
been discovered to be the most active users of social media.
As per Paul, Baker and Cochran (2012), the time spent on social media was
dependent on the attention span of the students. Attention span is the amount of time for
which students can concentrate on their study without getting distracted. They found out
that, higher the attention span, lower is the time spent by students on social media.
Junco (2011), time spent on Facebook was very strongly negatively related to the overall
GPA of the students.
Kirschner and Karpinski (2010) found out that, over indulgence with social media can affect
students’ academic performance negatively
As per Mingle and Adams(2015), Likert scale was used to survey the social media
effect on grade performance amongst 526 students. A Likert scale is a scale used for research
that involves questionnaire. Out of these 526 students, majority confirmed that the use of
social media affected their grades negatively. 62 (11.8%) students strongly agreed, while a
majority of students of strength 255 (48.5%) agreed that their grades dropped owing to the
use of social media. In addition, 60 (11.4%) students neither agreed nor disagreed. Finally

ASSUMPTION OF THE STUDY

The present study that will assess the effect of social media on students’ academic
performance. Many of students focus in the social media not the school works and the
students is fail in the academic because of many social media. As a result, students
who struggle with the management can easily fail prey to the negative impact of
social media. Because they were able to discuss and produce ideas and concepts
related to their studies, students who spent the majority of their time communicating
on social media had superior academic performance outcome.
