Revision No.: A

** The scope of this procedure shall be applied to all visual inspections carried out
during the execution of the field development project (for metals and weld joints)

** Visual examination is generally used to determine such things of mating surfaces,

shapes or evidence of leaking.

** Visual inspection shall be applied to 100% of all part, during and after post weld heat
treatment activities. (If any)

2 purpose :-

** The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that all steps of visual inspection are

according to the specification of the project and the standard code to control the
appearance of the weld and get good quality.

3 PERSONEL:-

** The QC inspector shall be suitably qualified and has a good experience with the

metals and welding joints.

** The QC inspector will check the item or component accordance to the specification of
the project, drawing and or code to apply the acceptance criteria.

** QC personnel who are required to perform visual inspection shall posse's good eye
sight. If the QC inspector is required to wear visual aids such as glasses then these must
be worn during the inspection.

** ASME B31.3

5 EQUIPMENTS:-

** Magnifier

** Welding gage

** Battery lamp

** Ruler

6 SURF ACE PREP ARA TION :-

** The surface must be cleaned from all dirt, grease, scales, welding flux, weld spatter,
paint ,oil and other extraneous matter that make mask on the surface .

**when edges of plates are gas cut, the resulting surfaces shall be uniform, smooth and
shall be free from scale and slag accumulations before welding, after cut edges are wire
brushed ,the fine film of rust adhering to the edges need not be removed before visual
inspection shall be applied on it.

** For the weld joint :the adjacent area must be cleaned up to 1 inch as mid. from both
sides

7 EXAMINATION:-

** The visual inspection shall be performed prior, during and post welding,

engineering and construction activities to ensure full compliance with the

specification, relevant codes and drawing .

** To make the VT proper light must be available or using the artificial light source to
get sufficient intensity to detect any discontinuities on the tested surface area

Revision No.: A

** All equipments will be used in the visual inspection procedure or part of it

according to the inspected part .

** Prior the welding, the inspector shall check the following as a minimum:-

a. Material type and grade

b. Surface preparation

c. Item fit up

d. Surface defects

e. Misalignment

f. All relevant dimensions which have an effect on the quality

g. Check joint configuration (edge preparations, root gap, level)

h. Check supports distribution and temporary attachments.

** During and post weld, the inspector shall check as a minimum: -

Review all W .P .S parameters such as :

a. Electrode type and size, preheat Temp.

b. Welding sequence.

c. Used welding consumable (certificates, types &sizes).

d. Welding process.

e. Welder qualification card.

f. Weather if suitable and make any tents for the welding location if it required and
applicable.

8 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA & TOLERANCES:-

**using the tolerances mentioned in the specification of the project, drawing and in the
code for joint configuration, DIM .level, alignment taking into consideration

shrinkage.

** If any parameter is out of tolerance, item shall be reassembled by a suitable way to be

complied with it.

9 INTERPRETATION & EV ALUA TION :-

** An examination checklist shall be used to plan visual examination and to verify that
the required visual observations were performed.

** All discontinuities will be observed through the VT will be determined and

measured it .

** Evaluate by reviewing the measuring of discontinuities with the acceptance criteria of

the specification of project

** Upon successful completion and acceptance of the visual inspection, the QC

inspector shall record the results on relevant visual inspection report (attached here
with the report which will be used in the project ).

10 REP AIR PROCEDURE :-

** Any surface defects i.e. oxides spatter, etc. Shall be removed by grinding or add

welding and check by VT to ensure their removal and there is sufficient parent
material left in place .

** The rejected item shall be rework as required until it conform to the required

spec's at the same time it shall be re -inspected
