What is Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s residency


training program?

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a unique and unparalleled extension of US-based Cleveland
Clinic’s model of care, specifically designed to address a range of complex and critical care
requirements unique to the Abu Dhabi population. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has five Centers
of Excellence in the following Institutes: Heart & Vascular, Neurological, Digestive Disease, Eye
and Respiratory & Critical Care. Other Institutes include Surgical Subspecialties, Medical
Subspecialties, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine,
Imaging, Quality & Patient Safety, and Clinical & Nursing. In all, more than 30 medical and
surgical specialties are represented at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

The primary aim of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is to advance health care delivery through the
provision of excellent patient care, world-class training programs, and the pursuit of innovation
and research. Residency training programs are designed on a competency-based framework
emphasizing reflective practice and specified educational outcomes. The curriculum utilizes
innovative teaching methods and assessments to ensure that upon completion of residency
training, physicians are equipped with the competencies required to address the health needs
of a diverse patient population. Our distinguished teaching faculty represents experts and
leaders in their fields and serve as significant resources and mentors to physicians in various
levels of training. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s physician residency programs are recognized by
the Abu Dhabi Department of Health and are seeking accreditation by the Accreditation Council
for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I). Upon successful completion of
training, graduating physicians will be eligible to pursue credentialing, licensing and employ-
ment opportunities as specialists in their respective fields of training.

In addition to residency training, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has partnered with a number of
local and international academic institutions including the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of
Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, NYU Abu Dhabi, Khalifa University and various
others in multiple educational and research initiatives that serve to enhance the busy
academic culture of the organization.

How long are the programs and what specialties are offered?
Most programs are between four to five years. Specialties offered are listed on

What are the eligibility criteria?


Applicants for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s residency training programs must meet the
eligibility criteria listed below.
1. Cumulative medical school Grade Point Average (GPA) of greater than or equal to 3.0
(On a 4.0 point scale), or its equivalent.
2. Fulfillment of licensure requirements set forth by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health.
3. Fulfilment of TANSEEQ criteria as per the Abu Dhabi Department of Health. For more

Application prioritization is given to applicants who demonstrate the following:


1. Excellent Academic Records
2. Excellent performance on USMLE steps 1 & 2 Clinical Knowledge, or equivalent medical exams.
3. Proof of English language proficiency.
TOEFL: a minimum score of 80 on the internet-based exam or 550 on the paper exam;
OR
IELTS: a minimum score of 6.5 on the academic test.
4. Medical school graduation within five years of application.

How do I apply?
In order to apply, you must first ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria listed in the previous
section.

You must prepare the documents outlined by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, which are
updated on an annual basis. The list of required documents can be accessed online: www.haad.ae

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is required to follow the Abu Dhabi Residency Program Application
and Match, TANSEEQ. The application process is outlined as follows:

Eligible applicants must register and pass the Residency Entrance Examination as
conducted by UAE University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Eligible applicants use the TANSEEQ application to apply for residency training programs
in Abu Dhabi.

When should I apply?
The TANSEEQ application form is made available in early March each year for a period
of one month.

Log in to the Abu Dhabi Department of Health website by the end of the current year for
specific exam entry dates and entry requirements. The link to the online application will
only be available during the application submission period via the Abu Dhabi Depart-
ment of Health website.
