1. OVERVIEW
This configuration guide is part of SAP Note 3107007. It describes configuration options in the area of
usability enhancements for the item table of the SAP GUI transactions for sales documents in SAP ECC and
SAP S/4HANA. Please Note that namely in S/4HANA the development focus is with the Fiori UI
representation of sales transactions. Nevertheless, various improvement requests raised in Customer
Connection SD Sales and Billing in 2020 and 2021 address usability enhancements specifically in the
existing SAP GUI transactions. The goal of this guide thus is to provide an overview of existing and new
configuration options that can help to improve the usability of the SAP GUI transactions for sales document
processing in the area of item table and item data.

2. NUMBER OF COLUMNS AND ROWS OF ITEM TABLE

This section relates to Improvement Requests 260792 and 260798. The number of columns and rows of the
item table of sales documents in SAP GUI transactions like VA01 depends on the available screen resolution
and the settings in the Screen Painter (transaction SE51). The maximum number of rows and columns is set
in the screen painter via the fields rows/columns by a fixed value. In S/4HANA the SAP Fiori Visual Theme
for SAP GUI allows subscreens to be always rendered with the maximum possible available width in the
Belize theme. This means that the number of columns is always dynamically adjusted to the available space.
This is controlled via the highlighted flag in the screen painter as can be seen in the following screenshot:

Please note that for the number of rows there currently is no dynamic Fiori: Zoom-In feature supported by
SAP Fiori Visual Theme. Also please note that the dynamic Fiori: Zoom-In feature is not available in SAP
ECC.

3. ADD ITEM RELATED BUTTONS TO THE ITEM TABLE
This section relates to Improvement Requests 260831 and 262207. SAP standard delivers various buttons to
trigger item related functions and navigations in the SAP GUI transactions for sales document processing.
SAP Improvement Note 3048888 describes and provides a new option to add further item related buttons to
the UI. The approach is based on a new BAdI which allows to add buttons to the item table that trigger
existing FCodes. This way it is for example possible to add buttons that trigger a direct navigation to a
specific detail screen of the selected line item.

4. PROVIDE USERSTATUS IN ITEM TABLE
This section relates to Improvement Requests 261124. Up to 10 user status fields can be provided directly in
the item table of the SAP GUI transactions for sales document maintenance. SAP Note 707031 contains
some backgrounds on how to achieve this.

5. PROVIDE PRICING CONDITIONS IN ITEM TABLE

This section relates to Improvement Requests 261124. Up to 6 pricing conditions can be provided directly in
the item table of the SAP GUI transactions for sales document maintenance. SAP Note 2739880 section
Manual change on item overview screen provides you with the details on how to achieve this using e.g. the
customizing of “Predefined Price Elements”.

Please note that for the item related partners a direct maintenance option in the item table does not exist
and is not planned for the SAP GUI transactions in the area of sales document processing.

6. PRODUCTPROPOSAL
This section relates to Improvement Requests 261124 and 262361.
The item table of the sales order can be configured to display product proposals including columns for
source information and for suggested quantities. The configuration for product proposals allows you to use
different predefined sources for product proposals such as order history or product-listings and -exclusions.
In addition it is possible to assign custom implementations to the customizing transaction to define new
sources and logic for product proposal. This is described in SAP Note 3046338 which also provides a code
sample for custom implementations.

7. PRODUCT CONFIGURATION
In S/4HANA there is a new Tab „Configuration“ which offers the attributes of product configuration. The
configuration attributes can this way be edited directly in the item table of the SAP GUI transactions for
sales document processing. This tab is in SAP ECC only provided by the SAP solution for MILL Products
Industry.

Activation is done in the following IMG activity. SAP note 2319234 provides some details on the activation
settings.

8. ADMINISTRATION OF LAYOUT OF ITEM TABLE
Generally it is possible to administer the layout of the item table in SAP GUI transactions for sales
document processing. The administration can be accessed via the icon I the upper right corner of the table
as well as via transaction SM30 (TCVIEW). Also see SAP Note 121550 for some basic explanations of this
approach.

Furthermore transaction variants and screen variants can be configured and assigned to the SD sales
documents types (TVAK-VARIANT). See SAP Notes 2048376, 582767, 187270 for some background
information on this approach.
Specifically for S/4HANA SAP Note 2303917 provides performance related considerations for removing
columns from the item table.
