Clasificacion de Materiales de Acuerdo Con Nfpa: Compuesto Acido Sulfurico

This document classifies materials according to the NFPA system. It provides an example classification for sulfuric acid as a health hazard of 3, flammability of 0, reactivity of 2, and special hazard of W. It then explains the NFPA classification system ratings for health hazard, flammability, and reactivity on scales of 0 to 4. Special hazards are denoted by letters or abbreviations like W for materials that react violently with water.

Health Hazard

Short exposure could cause serious temporary or residual injury even
3 though prompt medical attention was given.
Intense or continued exposure could cause temporary incapacitation or
2 possible residual injury unless prompt medical attention is given.

1 Exposure could cause irritation but only minor residual injury even if no treatment is given.

0 Exposure under fire conditions would offer no hazard beyond that of ordinary combustible material
Flammability

Must be moderately heated or exposed to relatively high temperature

1 Must be preheated beofre ignition can occur.

Normally unstable and readily undergo violent decomposition but do not

Normally stable, even under fire exposure conditions, and are not

Special Hazards

This section is used to denote special hazards. One of the most common is unusual reactivity with water. The letter W with

Other symbols, abbreviations or words may appear here to indicate unusual hazards. Some
examples include the following (not all of which are necessarily part of the NFPA system):
This denotes an oxidizer, a chemical which can greatly increase the rate
OX of combustion/fire.
This indicates that the material is an acid, a corrosive material that has a
ACID pH lower than 7.0
This denotes an alkaline material, also called a base. These caustic
ALK materials have a pH greater than 7.0

COR This denotes a material that is corrosive (it could be either an acid or a base).

This is a another symbol used for corrosive.

The skull and crossbones is used to denote a poison or highly toxic

material.

The international symbol for radioactivity is used to denote radioactive hazards; radioactive materia

Indicates an explosive material. This symbol is somewhat redundant

because explosives are easily recognized by their Reactivity Rating.
