Team and series competitors took a 100-question test then performed a role-play in front of
judges. Role-plays are common business scenarios where the student is asked to solve a problem
and present their solution to the judge. Project competitors conducted research, prepared a
paper, and presented their ideas on the day of the conference.
The DECA program is in its sixth year at Hamilton Wenham and has over one third of the school
as members. The program is led by Business Teacher and DECA Advisor Laura Wheeler with
Stefanie Rogal, Academic Coordinator of the RISE program, as Assistant Advisor. DECA is a
co-curricular organization of high school students focused on developing transferable skills for
college and careers, building self-esteem, cultivating leadership, and stressing community
involvement.
The team was joined by HWRHS faculty and staff including Sara Amancio, Julie Cahill-O’Shea,
Matt Dobbins, Matt Fitzgibbons, Craig Genualdo, Dan Hayden, Lisa Heitz, Joe Maher, Sally
Maijenski, Maribeth Ting, and Johanna Wilson. We thank our chaperones for supporting our
students at the conference!
