The renewable energy specially Wind energy to solve the energy problem and
finding alternative sources of energy.
Working title
Experimental and Numerical Study of the Performance of Archimedes Spiral
Wind Turbine
Analysis of the problem
Due to the worldwide energy crisis, research and development activities in the
field of renewable energy have been considerably increased in many countries.
Wind energy is becoming particularly important. Although considerable progress
has already been achieved, the available technical design is not yet adequate to
develop reliable wind energy converters for conditions corresponding to low
wind speeds and urban areas. Archimedes Spiral Wind Turbine appears to be
particularly promising for such conditions. The present study considers a
considerably improved design in order to increase the output power of a classical
spiral wind turbine.
The main target that the study aims
This study aims to improve and develop a wind turbine used for electricity
generation by making the best use of the kinetic energy of the wind which can be
used in many places like
1- Roof of the buildings
2- Roads and tunnels
The benefit of the study
1- New technology could be applicable and used in the global market.
2- Using clean energy for generating electricity and can be competitive to
the other sources of renewable energy with a suitable price for the users
3- Using this kind of technology in industry and replacing it with non-
renewable energy.

Research Methods
1- Review papers related to the wind energy (Literature survey).
2- Using simulation software to do the theoretical study like (ANSYS).
3- Doing Experimental study to verify and validate the theoretical work and
checking the Reliability of the modified turbine.
General Structure of the Study
The sequence of the study is
1- Abstract: A numerical and experimental study on the Archimedes spiral
wind turbine to enhance its performance, the experiments were carried
out in an open type test section low-speed wind tunnel facility, while the
numerical study was done using ANSYS software.
2- Introduction: The demanded energy needed for industrial uses is
increasing due to the increase in popularity. The natural resources supply
is limited and gradually decreasing. That is why the world is working to
make the use of renewable resources a priority, and to decrease the
irresponsible use of non-renewable resources
3- Methods: Review papers related to the wind energy (Literature survey).
Using simulation software to do the theoretical study like (ANSYS).
Doing Experimental study to verify and validate the theoretical work and
checking the Reliability of the modified turbine.
4- Results: The output power is higher than before with the same input
5- Discussion: Comparing the theoretical with the experimental results. And
observing the effected parameters which effect the performance.
6- Conclusion: The performance of the turbine becomes better than before
with using these new technologies.
Academic Contribution of Study
This study will open new ways for enhancing the use of wind. Developing the
technology of turbines and make it suitable for users. Adding new technology for
enhancing the turbine in many ways like enhance the construction of turbine,
using different material than those exists, developing the shape of turbine to
enhance the performance, developing the control system to track the wind
whatever changing the direction.
