The Movie “Jose Rizal”

(Reaction Paper)

Mixed emotions I have felt when I watched the movie “Jose Rizal” which is acted and
portrayed by Cesar Montano. The fact that the movie made tell nor helped us to know what our
national hero had done for the sake of our very own country. It shows how Dr. Rizal really loves
the country he belongs, and just how come he used then sacrifice his precious life for our
beloved country.
The movie completely shows the great explanation of the Philippine’s historic past, the
nationalism and heroism in non-violent ways even there were such times that characters speak in
Spanish language. Somehow, I couldn’t understand it unless there are subtitles.
Seeing history flashed before my eyes was just so remarkable. Gradually, my blinded
eyes are now opened. A three-hour epic on the life and struggles of his poet and patriotism. It
covers his life from his childhood to his execution at the hands of the Spanish forces occupying
the Philippines in the late 19th century. We are also thrown into the world of Rizal’s novels we
can have glimpse of how he viewed the Filipino society under the Spanish regime, that revealed
the sorrows of society.
The attributes that made our great hero and has always left me astounded was also shown
clearly. Not to mention his hundreds of achievements and profession but since when he was
childhood he became as an artist, a man of knowledge and wonder, a linguist, a master for every
craft, and a gentleman. What a miracle on how he attained all his achievements in his short span
of life. Most of all he was a good son, brother, and a wonderful lover in his way.
Furthermore, the movie made known the line of attack did by our heroes and countrymen
to achieve the country’s freedom under the rule of the maltreating Spaniards friar and apparently
military forces. They had introduced us to the life of subjugation of the fellow Filipino people
and that caused to do rebellions. Even in school or educational, it was felt by Rizal and the other
Filipino students too. They had suffered and viewed as the servants of the Spaniards.
Rizal did best to beat the Spaniards, he used his pen as his weapon rather than fighting
with a sword against the Spaniards administration. He made his novels and poetry, in which
these contents are all the bad doings of Spaniards administration he observed. There were his
writings entitled “Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo”. These books are also included the
life struggles nor the sufferings of many Filipinos. Sadly, his life ended due to his writings, he
was executed by the Spaniards. He believed in non-violent resistance, he always had hope in his
reforms and never agreed to the revolutions being planned out by fellow countrymen. Dr. Rizal
was a man of words but his were so much more combustible that he did gave birth to the
Philippine Revolution even without holding a gun or a sword can do.
Dr. Jose Rizal really a great hero, he did a big part for the betterment of our Philippine
society. He always remains as hero, from his life, works and writings. We, students must study
and dig out more the contributions of Dr. Jose Rizal, coz these days many are not interested
anymore. We should be grateful and appreciate Rizal’s life, without him still Filipino struggles a
lot from colonization.
