LAS ENGLISH 5 QUARTER 1 Module6 S V Agreement
The general rule in subject and verb agreement is that the subject must agree with the verb in
terms of number. That is, if the subject is singular, then the verb must be singular (s-form). If the
subject is plural in form, then the verb must also be plural (base form).
Sentences are usually written in the form subject + verb which means that the subject comes
before the verb. In this form, it is easy to identify the subject.
Examples: The child reads loudly. The boy sweeps the floor.
The children read loudly. The boys sweep the floor.
However, for inverted sentences, the verb is placed before the subject. The general rule is still
followed in this case.
Examples: Here comes the bride. There are visitors in the lobby.
Pronouns I and you take the base form of the verb.
Examples: I feel proud of your achievement.
You look good.
Will you all keep quiet?
