Introduction
The Westrex Printer Model 4800 is a full function print-

er with journal capabilities. The printer operates on
24V DC using a 4 pin power cable and a 25 pin serial
communication cable.
The unit uses a 9-needle impact dot matrix print head
and is able to print a full 96 character ASCII set as
well as having graphic capabilities.
2 ply paper rolls between 3.25" (825 mm) and 3.5"
Westrex 4800
(890 mm) can be used in the printer. The 4800 also
has a built in receipt cutter.

Installation
Ink Cartridge Loading CAUTION:
Do not connect this unit to the
Atronic game with power
applied. Serious damage will
occur to both the printer and the
Atronic game.

• Remove used ribbon by pull-
ing on the bottom of the car-
tridge assembly.
• Before inserting the new rib-
bon, turn the cartridge knob
anti-clockwise until ribbon is
tight.
• Carefully mount the Ink Car-
tridge onto the drive shaft,
keeping the ribbon between
the platen and the print
head.
• Carefully push the cartridge
onto the drive shaft, until it
snaps into place.
• Thread the ribbon through
the guide slot, to the right
of the print head, and over
the print head.
• Tighten the ribbon by turn-
ing the cartridge knob.
• Close paper cutter bail.

Paper Loading
Power off loading

• Insert the spindle into the new paper roll. (2 ply)
• Insert the spindle into the groves of the paper hold-
er. Be sure the paper comes from the bottom of
the roll.
• Lift the paper cutter, to release the pressure from
the pinch rollers.
• Make sure that the edge of the paper is square and
there is no tape residue.
• Feed the paper down into the rear most slot until
the paper shows under the paper cutter.
• Gently pull on the end of the paper and extract 6".
(approx 15 cm)
• Separate the paper, and feed the journal copy be-
hind the paper cutter bail.
• Attach the end of the journal copy onto the take-up
reel so that the paper follows a clockwise direction.
Take care when attaching the paper that no damage
is done to the clip.
• Turn the take up reel to tighten the journal copy.
• Insert the Receipt copy through the slot at the bot-
tom of the paper cutter.
• Lower the paper cutter bail. Tear off excess paper.

Power on loading
• Insert the spindle into the new paper roll. (2 ply)

• Insert the spindle into the groves of the paper hold-
er. Be sure that the paper comes from the bottom
of the roll.
• Make sure that the edge of the paper is square and
there is no tape residue.
• Feed the paper down into the rear most slot.
• Press and hold the Function Switch to the „F“ (feed)
position until the paper has fed 6" (approx 15 cm)
through the paper cutter.
• Lift paper cutter bail and remove the paper.

• Attach the end of the journal copy onto the take-up
reel so that the paper follows a clockwise direction.
Take care when attaching the paper that no damage
is done to the clip.
• Insert the Receipt copy through the slot at the bot-
tom of the paper cutter.
• Lower the paper cutter bail.
• Press the Function Switch to the „C“ (cut) position.
This will cut the receipt copy and tighten up the
journal copy.
Cutter Blade Replacement
• Place the printer so that the paper cutter bail fac-

es up.
• Remove the 2 screws holding the bail faceplate in
position.
• Carefully lift the faceplate from the bail assembly.
Caution: There are washers under the faceplate. They
provide the spacing necessary for smooth opera-
tion.
• Remove the cutting blade.
• Install the new cutting blade with the bevelled edge
facing up.
• Position the washers over the screw holes.
• Carefully place the faceplate over the guide rails.
• Install the screws being sure to capture the wash-
ers.

Special Functions
Power Up Reset
In the power up mode, the printer will enter a Reset
procedure. After a few seconds the printer head will
move to the left. This is the indication that the printer
has completed the reset procedure and has entered
an idle state.
Paper Status
A mircoswitch which is located between the rollers
that support the paper roll, is activated when the pa-
per roll becomes small enough is to fall between the

rollers. The mircoswitch sends a signal to the Atronic
games stating the paper is low and printing will stop.
Self Test
To activate the Self Test, turn off the power to the
game. Press and hold the function switch in the „F“
(feed) position and turn on power. Once printing starts,
release the function switch. The printer will print all of
the characters along with some simple graphics and a
Bar code.
Printing will continue until the power is turned off.
