MODULE 5: EVALUATION AND
PROMOTION OF LOCAL AND ORAL
HISTORY AND HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE
Introduction
The local and oral history and historical and
cultural heritage of the different communities in our country define the richness of our past. As Filipinos, we are expected to take the responsibility of preserving and promoting our rich history and culture.
.This session will guide you to develop interest
in your own local and oral history through critical evaluation and concern in preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of your own community.

A. Desired Learning Outcomes
sOutOutcome ● Manifest interest in local and oral history. ● Show concern in preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of the country.
B. Objective ● Evaluate critically local and oral history. ● Help in preserving and promoting historical and cultural heritage.
C. Pre-Test Answer the following questions: 1. What do you know about how your barangay got its name? - It was named Sta. Cruz, when people in this barangay noticed hundreds of Cruz beyond the field. 2. Do you have museums and historical shrines in your barangay/town/province? Give their historical background. Museum/s:_________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________. Historical shrine/s: Jose Rizal Park Rizal Park is one of the major tourist attractions. The park has been a favorite spot for unwinding, socializing, relaxing, jogging, strolling, and bonding among families and friends. At dawn, different groups gather here to practice skateboarding. There are also some photographers around the park so if you want to have some photos beside the monument, they are always prepared to take pictures. The park has an Open-air Auditorium where long running concerts take place. The Rizal Park is a big part of our history, that’s why we must remember all the things that happened, is happening, and will happen here.

3.What cultural performance, indigenous practice or religious festival your own community is known for? Give their historical background.
Cultural performance: People living in Santo Domingo can make ‘labba’ and ‘bigao. Also is a best cook and they make squash noodles that is really good. Indigenous practice They live far from civilizations and want to isolate themselves to other people. And decided to live for their own in highlands.
Religious festival The Good Friday procession features decorated carrozas bearing life-size statues of Spanish vintage. On Easter Sunday, the dawn celebration depicting the Resurrection of Christ, called “Sabet,” is a scene to behold.

Living History Session
Travelling Classroom (Imagined Educational Tour): (own locality) Have an imagined walking tour in your own locality considering its historical value. As a resident of the place, it is expected that you can provide a brief history of the site using primary sources.\
E. Activities and Assessment
Task at Hand For those with internet, do the following: 1. Prepare a powerpoint presentation basing from online sources promoting the historical and cultural heritage of your own locality. 2. Form a group chat with members coming from different localities and promote the historical and cultural heritage of your own place. 3. Make a reaction paper or critique of a particular historical site, shrine, museum, cultural performance, indigenous practice or religious festival in your own locality. For those without internet, do the following: 1. Conduct an interview about the historical and cultural heritage of your own community through SMS or call. Prepare a transcript of the interview. 2. Conduct a conference call with members coming from different localities and promote the historical and cultural heritage of your own place. 3. Make a reaction paper or critique of a particular historical site, shrine, museum, cultural performance, indigenous practice or religious festival in your own locality.

F. Reflection Make an essay showing your appreciation to the historical and cultural heritage of your community. My heritage anchored me to my identity by bringing me back to reality. I felt that I had to break free from this unknowing persona otherwise I’ll go down in history as just being a plain, boring person like everyone else. Eventually, I became appreciative of what my heritage had to offer. I gained many friends also to make me happier as it was before. I started to appreciating my heritage when I can already explore by myself, I see those beautiful insights of what this heritage had. And we are so blessed for having this kind of community.
G. Post - Test
Answer the following questions:
1. Make a narrative about how your barangay got its name?
- One farmer is heading to his house after a long tiring day, when he noticed a golden Cruz located ate the center of the field. At first, he just ignored it. Days passed, he continuous seeing the same Cruz at the exact location, until he decided to tell to the people living in that Barangay. After telling this, people living there laughed at him and did not believe him. One day, a family is crossing the way when they saw the same Cruz, the tell this to the people and they started to believe what the farmer told them few days ago. Days passed, the Golden Cruz is seen all over the Barangay, and people decided to call their Barangay, Barangay Santa Cruz. 2. Give a brief historical background of a particular museum, historical shrine, cultural performance, indigenous practice or religious festival in your barangay/town/province. Jose Rizal Park.
