Manila is the call center capital of the world, overtaking India.

Call centers have a


big impact to our economy, causing it to grow bigger. 60% cost through outsourcing
salaries are higher in Philippines than India. 11-billion-dollar industry in our economy
decade outsourcing.

500,000 Filipinos will be offered more jobs in the next three years because of
outsourcing. Best employer are the call center amongst the people especially the
graduated ones because they are still vacant after schooling. In that way, they could
earn and save money for future use and at the same time, they could help their family
and will not be a burden to their parents anymore. In our country, we have 500,000
workers in the Philippines who deals with call centers. Filipinos usually work in call
centers because of the high salary they receive. They are well-known for being fluent in
speaking English. In line with this, Filipinos working in call center agents can also earn
as much as they can earn in abroad. Working here in the Philippines will be better
because they still have time to spend with their families and can still see each other
everyday, unlike when they leave the country. With the high salary, they could help
sustain their family's needs without being far from them. Call centers help their agents
achieve their dream through working to them.

Promotion is very fast because people come and go due to being dissatisfied
with their jobs and being fed up sometimes with the repetitive works they do everyday.
Also, there are more opportunities for them to grow due to the need of workers.
Americans are mostly the customers of our country's call centers because due to our
different time zones, we are able to communicate with them if they are in need
something such as customer service, shopping, and the like. Thousands of Filipinos are
serving Americans. 

Mostly, Filipinos are chosen to be hired because of their Filipino characteristics,


like being patient, hospitable and working with proper demeanor towards call. Call
centers offer job stability and security to every agent they have plus those who are hired
already. Taxes are cheaper in our country making foreigners be attracted to establish
new businesses here. Fast food chains, that are open for 24 hours, usually take their
place near a call center because of the workers there; they tend to buy food in fast food
chains because of hunger, craving and sometimes as a form of relieving stress due to
their work. Of course, this has a disadvantage in the health of the agents. They do not
eat nutritious food anymore because of the fast-food chains that surround their work
place. 
Working at night puts them at high risk. It affects their health because of staying late at
night working instead of sleeping and relaxing. 47% of agents skipped meals and drink
caffeinated drinks like coffee and soft drinks. An agent in an interview shared his
experience: he drinks 4 to 5 cups every time he is on duty, making him awake and
lively. Some agents smoke cigarettes because of the stress they are experiencing and
to help fight the drowsiness and sleepiness.
