THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS
Text: 21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who
sins against me? Up to seven times?”22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.23
“Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he
began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold[b] was brought to him. 25 Since he was
not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the
debt.26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back
everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.28 “But when that
servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.[c] He grabbed him
and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and
begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the
man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they
were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.32 “Then the master called the
servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33
Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him
over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.35 “This is how my heavenly Father will
treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

1. WHAT IS THE LACK OF FORGIVENESS?

a. It is wanting to collect the debt at all costs is wishing that the person suffers the same or worse than
what they did to me.
b. It is keeping hate, bitterness, resentment and desire for revenge against someone.
c. It is an open door to the devil and demons to destroy our spiritual life
2. WHO DO WE GET HURT FROM? When we receive a hurto r betrayel from someone like:
• A father who abandoned you when you were little
• A mother or father who left home and left you with an aunt, a grandmother or a family
• A brother who rejected you when you were little or mocked you.
• A pastor or leader who gave bad testimony
• A friend who betrayed you at work or at school.
• A spouse who was unfaithful
• A child who did not finish school and uses drugs.

3 WHAT IS FORGIVENESS?

• Action and result of freeing a person of a debt or obligation a punishment. Matthew 18: 32-33
• Forgive not only because the person is released but it frees us.

4 THE POWER THAT FORGIVENESS HAS.

A Forgiving brings us closer to God. Matthew 6: 14-15: When you do not forgive there is wall
that separates you from God. You may want to grow spiritually but you can't when you forgive, you
have peace with God and enjoy life.

B Forgiveness heals the soul and restores relationships. Mark 11: 25. The soul is sick When
you store resentment, as we forgive our soul is healthy and has life.

C. Forgiveness brings physical healing. James 5:16 Illustration: Studies confirm that disturbing
emotions are bad for health. They found that people who experience chronic anxiety, long periods
of sadness and pessimism, continuous tension or hostility, cynicism, due to a situation of anger, had
twice the risk of getting a disease such as asthma, arthritis, headaches , ulcers and heart problems.
This makes disturbing emotions a factor of risk as harmful as they are, for example, smoking or
high cholesterol to heart problems,is to say, a major threat to health

D. Forgiving helps us to live grateful. Luke 7: 37-38; 47 When you do not forgive you are
saying there is no money, thing or person who can pay the debt they owe you. When we do not forgive
our reason invalidates the sacrifice of Jesus.
E. Forgiving keeps us aligned with God's purpose. Hebrews 12: 15-17
• Do not sell your calling because they did not greet you or because someone spoke bad about
you Doesnt Gods calling value more than a misunderstandment? with your leader or someone?
• When we do not forgive we align with the plans of hell because Satan came to kill our calling.
When we forgive we align with heaven forgive if your leader is wrong, forgive if we do not get
greeted, I did not get a birthday gift if I'm going to give.
F. Forgiving sets us free. Luke 4:18 NIV
• When we dont forgive we give the right to Satan and his demons to oppress. An
executioner is a person who was in charge of executing death row once and apply
corporal punishment
• Currently represent demons: depression, guilt, vices drugs, alcoholism, suicide,
anxiety, sickness, poverty, etc. By forgiving we are freed from oppression.

5. Steps to forgive:

• • Make a decision to forgive with all your heart.

• Make a list of people who have hurt you throughout your life and forgive them.
• Repent for keeping this unforgiveness.
• Express your forgiveness verbally.
• Give up any spirit of resentment, bitterness, hatred and
unforgiveness.
