SUBJECT: Unit 2, Task 5 – Planning Warehouse Operations

You have been asked to take responsibility for the warehouse at Chagong. On your arrival, it is clear
that the operation is not organized as there are no apparent planned work cycles or procedures. For
this exercise assume the following:
• All goods for this schedule arrive in 25k sacks, palletized and each pallet carries 20 sacks
• The vehicles which have a 20-ton payload trucks can carry 40 pallets.
• The vehicles which have a 10-ton payload can carry 20 pallets
• The Chagong warehouse has a Forklift Truck, a number of hand pallet trucks and some basic
block stacking.
• The movement distance is 10 meters from Receipt area to Block stacking and 10 meters from
Block Stacking to the dispatch area.
• The forklift truck and driver can unload vehicles and move goods to the Goods Receipt area at a
rate of 30 pallets/hour
• Goods are received at camps unpalletized due to absence of handling equipment,
• A working day will be based around 8 hours work.
Using the Transport Schedule as a guide, draw up a plan for the daily warehouse operation to allocate
resource requirements to match the flow of goods into and out of the warehouse covering the four
areas of receipt, storage, order pick and dispatch.

Thank you,
Francois
