El Pueblo de Concepcion (Tarlac) Al Dr Jose Rizal (Qñg Patiu)
Part I As I read the article written by Sir Lino L. Dizon, I learned that there was this time where Dr. Jose Rizal was at the heart of Concepcion, Tarlac’s past like in many places around the country. Because of this article, I also learned that the Concepcion’s Plaza was once called “Patiu” which was named after Dr. Jose Rizal because it was originally called as “Patio Rizal”. And thanks to the municipal president that time, Don Santiago D. Mallari, the statue of our Hero was inaugurated at the plaza named as “El Pueblo de Concepcion Al Dr. Jose Rizal”. This was the first time that I learned about this history, however I felt sad and happy at the same time. Happy because there’s an improvement in the Concepcion’s Plaza and there’s this school called Escuelang Laun (now called Concepcion South Central School) which was the first public school in Concepcion, Tarlac, we can see how beautiful and improved it is now. But sad, because of the Plaza and the school, it lessened the impact of Dr. Jose Rizal’s statue to the people of Concepcion, Tarlac. Because of that, people from other places might think that the statue of our National Hero was for the school and not for the whole town of Concepcion.
I came to realize that I only know a little about our
national hero, this article makes me want to dig deeper on how good Rizal is. Also, this article inspired me a lot. I can see how important it is to honor our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. It is a controversial fact that we celebrate Rizal Day on December 30 of each year since it his death anniversary. This is to commemorate the nationalism and martyrdom of Rizal. I think the reason why we are celebrating Rizal Day is perhaps to bring the Filipinos together as they immortalize Rizal and his significance in contemporary times. As a future teacher, I will educate my students about Dr. Jose Rizal, I will tell them that the contribution of Dr. Jose Rizal on our country is priceless.
