LAPTOP
NUMBER 1
Is the device a part of a computer system? If yes, is it a computer peripheral?
How this device classified (input, output, etc.)?
The laptop is a computer system in itself. Specifically, it is considered to be a
fully built personal computer, designed as miniature and compact than desktop
computers having much of the same abilities. Laptops of today use almost the
same processor, only some changes are made so that the chips/processors
consume less energy with less sacrifice with the performance. They can be
categorized as 5th generation computers as they operate ultra-large-scale
integration (ULSI) and have 10 million electronic components.
A computer peripheral is defined as a hardware input or output device which
gives a computer extra functionality. The laptop is classified as both an input and
output device. Laptops combine all input and output capabilities and
components of a computer system, including its display screen, keyboard,
speakers, integrated cameras or webcams, disc drives, and pointing devices (a
touchpad or a trackpad), with a processor and operating system fit into a smaller
device. They can be powered either from an internal battery (which all laptops
have and need) or by an external power supply unit from the AC adapter.
Furthermore, integrated are the Motherboard, Central Processing Unit (CPU),
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), Random Access Memory (RAM) storage which
can be a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid-state drive (SDD) as well as ports readily
available for output devices.
NUMBER 2
LAPTOP AS THE MOST INDISPENSABLE AMONG THE OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES
The laptop is by far one of the best inventions created. Laptops can handle
multiple workloads in different types of usages. This simple yet powerful fact makes
the laptop indispensable. Several advantages exist for individuals using laptops.
The compatibility of the laptop to other devices makes sharing data easier as well
since it has different HDMI, USB, and SD Memory ports. It also has a large storage
capacity that can hold files and other applications. It comes with a DVD/CD drive
which is still currently useful and offers reliable software. It has the same system as
the personal computer, all commands, tasks and software is present within the
device, unlike other electronic devices. Laptops are embraced because of the
technological tools they offer combined with their portability. It gives students the
flexibility and freedom they need including more efficient and detailed
notetaking, faster writing and editing, and convenient group work and study.
Laptops offer these advantages to students no matter what their grade or age.
The other mentioned devices of the other groups are mainly computer
paraphernalia such as input and output devices. They would need a computer
or a laptop to utilize their devices. In terms of accessibility and connectivity,
laptops allow access to online information wherever there is an Internet
connection. Most laptops include both Wi-Fi and Ethernet networking as a
standard feature. This accessibility allows students to study whenever they have
the time no matter where they are. Access to notes and educational resources
from the internet can greatly improve student performance. Additionally, laptops
are equipped with high operating systems and processors which allows high
performance and can run powerful software with ease which allows multi-tasking
and efficient productivity. Although mobile phones are cost-efficient ranging
from $208 to $1000 compared to laptops that cost over $500 or more depending
on their capabilities, storage, and features. Mobile phones may have certain
features like laptops, but their functions remain completely different thus phones
cannot simply replace laptops. Overall, Laptops are exceptional among other
devices due to various reasons as abovementioned.
NUMBER 3
CAN YOU IDENTIFY DEVICES/PERIPHERALS THAT CAN BE BOTH AN OUTPUT AND
INPUT DEVICE? JUSTIFY YOUR ANSWERS.
• LAPTOP
The laptop can also be considered as an input and output device. When
taking and looking at the uses of the laptop as a whole, it has input, and
output devices counted as its parts. For illustration, it is geared with a
keyboard, ports for flash drives, earphones/headset, HDMI port, and
multiple USB ports all of which can be used for inputting data and various
output functionalities.
• DIGITAL CAMERA
A digital camera is a photographic input device that records (inputs) and
stores images and videos in digital form on memory cards. It can record
sound and video shooting settings in addition to capturing images. The
digital camera enables us to take a snapshot as input data and create a
document in standardized formats such as JPG, JPEG, MP4, and 4K for
computer output.
• STORAGE DEVICES
Such as; disk drive, solid-state drive, USB flash drive, memory card, tape
drive, and compact disks are considered to be both input and output
devices since they can be used to send data and control signals to an
information processing system, such as a computer or other information
equipment, as well as to communicate the results of data processing
carried out by an information processing system (such as a computer) that
converts electronically generated data into human-readable form.
The most recent innovation in portable units, such as the pen-shaped Pen
drive, was used to transfer data such as audio, video, and other data files
from one device to another. Because of their compact size and extreme
portability and versatility, they can extract and receive data simultaneously
only by plugging them into a USB port. It functions as both an external
storage device and an I/O device (both the feature of input and output
devices).
• AUDIO CARDS/SOUND CARDS
A sound card or soundboard is both an input and output device since it
converts digital audio data into analog audio for the speakers to play it.
• NETWORK CARD
The network card is a hardware device used for networking. Also known as
a Local area Network card, Ethernet card, Network card or Interface
Controller. It can work as both an input and output device, it functions as
a middle person between the computer and data network. It works like a
translator, which converts data into a digital signal.
• HEADPHONES/EARPHONES
Modern headphones and earphones already contain small mics for input,
not limiting anymore its use to listening or output. Headphones connected
to a computer (laptop, smartphone, etc.) receive information outputted
from the computer. This means headphones are output devices.
Headphones with built-in microphones are input and output devices
according to the computer. They convert analog audio signals (electrical
energy) into sound waves (mechanical wave energy). Through both the
speakers can deliver sound output to the user, and microphones can take
audio from the user and give it to the smartphone or laptop, whatever it is
connected to.
• TOUCH SCREEN
A touch screen is an input/output device. Not only is it capable of
accepting input, but it also displays the output that was commanded or
input by the user.
• FAX MACHINE
It is both an input and output device since it uses a scanner and a printer.
A scanner that inputs a document, sends a clone copy of the file, and
receives the data to be printed as the output process.
• RADIO
Radio can be classified as an input/output device since electricity runs the
radio as well as a signal it picks up from the antenna. The antenna that
intercepts radio waves and converts them to tiny alternating currents which
are applied to the receiver, and the receiver extracts the desired
information. The output is the motion of the speaker which converts the
electrical and radio energy into sound. It conveys information from one
place to another through the intervening media (i.e., air, space,
nonconducting materials) without wires. Besides being used for transmitting
sound and television signals, radio is used for the transmission of data in
coded form.
