INSTRUMENT TRAINING ROUTES FOR NAIROBI, MOMBASA AND MALINDI


Instrument training routes allow the pilot to fly using the flight instruments without any external visual
reference and in particular during Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).
The following Instrument Training Routes have been developed and published for operations.
1) Nairobi Training Route 1

Nairobi Instrument Training Route 2.

HKNW: Depart as cleared and set course DCT to NV (heading 081°M/8.5nm).


From NV VOR/DME, fly outbound on radial 095° for 15NM then execute an arc to the right (radius 15NM
centred NV ).Descent to 9,100ft on crossing radial 180° NV and 7,900ft after crossing radial 220° NV.
Intercept the ILS RWY 06 JKIA (a leading radial 220° NV 15nm is established) or as instructed by
ATC.

HKJK: Depart as cleared. Set course NV VOR/DME or intercept and fly outbound radial 095° and
continue as illustrated above.

Climb on runway heading to the MOV DVOR and fly outbound on radial 060° MOV

Set course overhead the MLD DVOR and fly outbound on radial 270° for 17nm or until intercepting radial
360°M MOV DVOR.
Fly inbound the MOV DVOR until you intercept radial 240°from MLD DVOR. Fly inbound to the MLD DVOR, fly
outbound on checking overhead on radial 060°for 15nm.Excecute a 15nm arc to the left until you intercept
the extended centerline of runway 17 for long finals RWY17 or proceed to the VOR and hold or for the
VOR/DME RWY17 or 35 as applicable.

Aircrafts can also home to the MLD and MOV (MOVEX) using certified GNSS receivers.
