Materials: roof tiles - clay
Properties:
2. High durability.
3. High sustainability.
4. Long-lasting.
5. Smooth surface.
Advantages:
2. Resist wind.Because clay has has natural air ventilation due to its high porosity.
5. Good stability because clay possessed small voids and pores to capable in retaining water.
Disadvantages:
1. Heavy. So we need to ensure that the framing and structure of roof can support the clay.
2. Fragile and crack easily when in moisture places. The moisture can penetrate into the pores
and expand when in hot weather and promote cracking.
3. High cost. Clay roof tiles are expensive than concrete tiles.
4. Hard to install. Because we need to have a right pattern and techniques to fit the roof and
also ensure there is not any moisture will go into the clay roof tiles.
Usage:
Clay can used to make earth plaster. It used to cover interior and exterior of structures of
materials. Besides, clay is one of the components in building bricks. It mixed with other
components to make good quality of bricks.Clay can used to make furnitures. They formed,
dried and burned in kiln to make in dry form.
The structure of a wall consists of many components such as bricks, plaster and paint. The wall
of this building is brick wall made with plastering and painting.
Properties:
1. Comes in various sizes
2. Widely accepted building material
3. Made up of cement, aggregates and water
4. Hard
5. Strong
6. Rectangular in shape
Advantages:
1. Good compressive strength
2. Easily produced
3. Economical
4. Good insulation properties
5. Good conductor of sound
Disadvantages:
1. Have a high carbon footprint due to the presence of the concrete which will release
large amounts of carbon dioxides into the atmosphere during its production process
2. Not very ductile
3. Brittle
4. Poor sound insulator
Usage : Most commonly used in the construction of buildings. It is suitable for use due to its
nature of being strong with good compressive strength. The economical value of cement bricks
also make it another suitable component in construction. Thus it is suitable.
Usage : It is used in both interior and exterior of buildings to provide a more aesthetically
pleasing look. The smooth surface provided by plastering also enables painting works on walls
to be carried out with ease. It also provides the wall a protective layer by being more resistant
to knocks and dents. Thus it is suitable.

Properties:
1. Heat resistant
2. Corrosion resistant
3. Water resistant
4. Abrasion and scratch resistant
5. Durable
6. Forms a protective layer
Advantages:
1. Provides aesthetic values and acts as a beautifier
2. Additives prevent mold and mildew from growing
3. Gives an illusion of a bigger space
4. Economically friendly
5. Cheaper alternative to wallpaper
6. Used to hide or disguise defects in wall
7. Reduces the effects of weathering
Disadvantages:
1. Spectrum of paint colours available is limited
2. Chips and peels over time and will need recoating
3. Stains are stubborn
4. Chemicals released from paint are harmful to the human body
5. Short term exposure results in side effects such as watery eyes, irritation of nose and
throat, headaches, lightheadedness, dizziness
6. Long term exposure results in side effects such as asthma, cancer, liver damage, nervous
system damage
Usage: It is used in the interior and exterior surface of walls to provide aesthetical purposes.
Paints such as weather bond paint is used for the exteriors of walls and contains special
chemical properties to help it cope with harsher outside conditions such as wind, sun and rain.
Paint is also a more economical option as to wallpaper. Thus it is suitable.
Ceramic tiles used in bathrooms and the kitchen wall of kiara indah condominium
Properties:
1. Water resistant
2. Low maintenance
Advantages:
1. Affordable
2. Tiles are mold and mildew resistant
3. Colour permanence as the colour of tiles do not fade
4. Easy to clean
Disadvantages:
1. Prone to crack if heavy items are dropped in it
2. Repair works for cracked tiles are costly
3. Grout lines between tiles are not waterproof and is highly susceptible to mold and
mildew
Usage: Ceramic tiles are most commonly used in bathrooms and kitchens due to its water
resistant properties. Stains such as oil stains or water stains are also much easier to clean after
usage. Thus it is suitable.

Usage:The material used in this building was suitable, concrete was a material that is low cost
and fire resistant so it's very safe and suitable to use as a fire exit and public staircase.
Materials:
❖ Concrete
❖ Brick
❖ Mortar
❖ Steel
Properties
❖ High compressive strength but low tensile
❖ High fire resistance
❖ Capable of binding together individual
❖ Ability to resist large force
Advantages
❖ Ingredients of concrete are easily available in most of the places
❖ Handling is easy as the pieces are light in weight
❖ Binds the surface of the adjacent bricks together to make it more stable
❖ The cost is low compared to other materials
Disadvantages
❖ Concrete is less ductile
❖ Not strong as others materials such as stone
❖ The process to mix mortar is difficult, it requires a lot of opencast mining
❖ It may cause corrosion for steel
Usage
❖ Concrete is suitable for building columns and beams. This is because to make sure the
column won't collapse
❖ Brick is suitable for building columns. This is because it is more stable to support the
beams
❖ Mortar is suitable for binding with bricks. So that they cannot slide easily
❖ Steel is suitable for building beams. This is because to prevent cracking
Kiara Indah Condominium located in Paya Terubong, Penang island provides basic and
adequate structures such as roof, wall, staircase, flooring as well as proper structures like
columns and beams. All these structures such as the roof, stairs and proper flooring help ease
