Use Personal Pronouns in Sentences

Background Information:
Personal pronouns are used to replace nouns in sentences. The words being replaced
are called antecedents.

Antecedents are nouns that are replaced by pronouns in sentences.


Personal pronouns should agree with their antecedents in number and in gender.

When to use the personal pronouns he, she, it, and they:
• Masculine – referring to male.
- he (singular), they (plural).

• Feminine – referring to female.


- she, (singular), they (plural)

• Neutral – referring to someone who might not identify strictly as male or female. These
pronouns are considered gender neutral. It is also used when referring to multiple people.
- it (singular), they (plural)

• The first person indicates the speaker.


• The second person indicates the addressee, or the person spoken to.
• The third person indicates a third party individual other than the speaker or the
person/s being talked about.

Examples of Personal Pronouns used in a sentence.

Masculine
1. Israel is tall. He is tall.
2. John is playing basketball. He is playing basketball.
3. Father loves going to church . He loves going to church.
4. Mang Pedro is a farmer. He is a farmer.

Feminine
1. Angela is a loving and caring mother. She is a loving and caring mother.
2. Bela likes chocolate ice cream. She likes chocolate ice cream.
3. Fatima is my elder sister. She is my elder sister.
4. Lea gave me a letter. She gave me a letter.
Neutral
1. Isias and Eiro are both athletes. They are both athletes.
2. Maria and Hazel are friends since They are friends since elementary.
