What I Need to Know

This module focuses on the various contemporary art forms and their practices
from the various regions. One of the benefits of Contemporary Art is that it allows
individuals a means of personal expression. Through painting, sculpture, and
performance art, anyone can express themselves in a way that will be safely observable
for others. Likewise, the perspectives that are expressed are valuable for society
because it gives a unique window into the minds and thoughts of the artist.
Just as the making of art is a personal expression, so is the selection and display
of art in someone’s office or home decor. By selecting art pieces that appeal personally,
a person can exercise their own choice and express elements of their own mind and
thoughts, even if they have no personal artistic talent or interest in making art. Others
can quickly gain an understanding based on the artistic choices.
Given the fact that Contemporary Art is both personally expressive and a
commentary on culture, for most viewers, it will be thought-provoking. This is indeed
the reason that many people enjoy going to museums and spending time with art. It
allows people the chance to be exposed to stimuli that can provoke thoughts and even
emotions. For many, it can lead to new information, education, and growth.
At times, art can be powerfully thought-provoking. This is because it does
communicate through visuals and not words. Contemporary artwork can trigger not
only the thoughts but also the accompanying emotions so that the viewer is able to
fully engage with the piece. This promotes an internal dialogue that can be shocking,
sensational, and even transformative to the person’s mindset.

The module give emphasis on the following:

What’s New

According to J. Paul Getty Museum that contemporary art refers to art made and
produced by artists living today. Today's artists work in and respond to a global
environment that is culturally diverse, technologically advancing, and multifaceted.
Working in a wide range of mediums, contemporary artists often reflect and comment
on modern-day society. Contemporary arts come in different forms: fine arts,
visual arts and performing arts.

 Fine Arts
According to Wikipedia that fine art is art developed primarily
for aesthetics or beauty, distinguishing it from decorative art or applied art,
which also has to serve some practical function, such as pottery or most
metalwork. In the aesthetic theories developed in the Italian Renaissance, the
highest art was that which allowed the full expression and display of the artist's
imagination, unrestricted by any of the practical considerations involved in, say,
making and decorating a teapot. It was also considered important that making
the artwork did not involve dividing the work between different individuals with
specialized skills, as might be necessary with a piece of furniture, for example.
Even within the fine arts, there was a hierarchy of genres based on the amount
of creative imagination required, with history painting placed higher than still
life.
Fine arts direct on contemporary painting, sculpture and architecture.
a. Painting is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other
medium to a solid surface (called the "matrix" or "support"). The
medium is commonly applied to the base with a brush, but other
implements, such as knives, sponges, and airbrushes, can be used.
In art, the term painting describes both the act and the result of
the action (the final work is called "a painting"). The support for
paintings includes such surfaces as walls, paper, canvas,
wood, glass, lacquer, pottery, leaf, copper and concrete, and the
painting may incorporate multiple other materials, including sand,
clay, paper, plaster, gold leaf, and even whole objects.
b. Sculpture is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three
dimensions. It is one of the plastic arts. Durable sculptural processes
originally used carving and modelling, in stone, metal, ceramics, wood
and other materials but, since Modernism, there has been an almost
complete freedom of materials and process.
c. Architecture is the art and science of designing buildings and other
physical structures. A wider definition often includes the design of the
total built environment from the macro level of town planning, urban
design, and landscape architecture to the micro level of construction
details and, sometimes, furniture.

5
 Visual Arts
According to the unbound visual arts organization that visual arts are art
forms that create works that are primarily visual in nature, such as ceramics,
drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video,
film making and architecture. These definitions should not be taken too strictly
as many artistic disciplines (performing arts, conceptual art, textile arts) involve
aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types. Also included within the
visual arts are the applied arts such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion
design, interior design and decorative art.
The current usage of the term "visual arts" includes fine art as well as the
applied, decorative arts and crafts, but this was not always the case. Before the
Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain and elsewhere at the turn of the 20th
century, the term 'artist' was often restricted to a person working in the fine arts
(such as painting, sculpture, or printmaking) and not the handicraft, craft, or
applied art media. The distinction was emphasized by artists of the Arts and
Crafts Movement who valued vernacular art forms as much as high forms. Art
schools made a distinction between the fine arts and the crafts maintaining that
a craftsperson could not be considered a practitioner of art. (From Wikipedia
2012)
What is Public Art?
Public art is exactly that, art in public spaces. The term “public art” may
conjure images of historic bronze statues of a soldier on horseback in a park.
Today, public art can take a wide range of forms, sizes, and scales—and can be
temporary or permanent. Public art can include murals, sculpture, memorials,
integrated architectural or landscape architectural work, community art, digital
new media, and even performances and festivals! (Americans for the Arts)
 Performing Arts
According to Wikipedia that performing arts are arts such as music,
dance, and drama which are performed for an audience. It is different
from visual arts, which is when artists use paint, canvas or various materials to
create physical or static art objects. Performing arts include a range of
disciplines which are performed in front of a live audience, including theatre,
music, and dance.
Theatre, music, dance and object manipulation, and other kinds of
performances are present in all human cultures. The history of
music and dance date to pre-historic times whereas circus skills date to at
least Ancient Egypt. Many performing arts are performed professionally.
Performance can be in purpose built buildings, such as theatres and opera
houses, on open air stages at festivals, on stages in tents such as circuses and
on the street.
Live performances before an audience are a form of entertainment. The
development of audio and video recording has allowed for private consumption
of the performing arts. The performing arts often aims to express one's emotions
and feelings.

WHAT I NEED to KNOW
This module focuses on the various art forms found in the Philippines. Art
surrounds life, all people in every location, without us being aware of it. Since time
immemorial, art has existed as long as man has. It is a huge part of our culture, which
shapes our ideas, and vice versa, and provides us with a deeper understanding of
emotions, self-awareness, and more.
Art and culture boast multiple opportunities for learning, entertainment,
leisure, personal growth, and improving communication with others. From theaters
and museums to public libraries and art studios, art and culture unite people
regardless of their age, nationality, or religion.
It is essential to preserve our various arts. That is why museums are important
vessels for the protection and conservation of Philippine arts. A number of museums
in the Philippines possess works of art that have been declared as National Treasures,
notably the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila. Other notable museums
include Ayala Museum, Negros Museum, Museo Sugbo, Lopez Museum,
and Metropolitan Museum of Manila. University museums also hold a vast array of
art. Libraries and archives are also important, among the most known are the National
Library of the Philippines and the National Archives of the Philippines. Various
organizations, groups, and universities have also conserved the arts, especially the
performing and craft arts.
Many conservation measures have been undertaken by both private and public
institutions and organizations in the country, in addressing the heritage management
in the Philippines. The enactment of laws such as the National Cultural Heritage
Act have aided in Filipino art conservation. The act also established the country's
repository of all culturally-related heritage, the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts is currently the official cultural arm
of the Philippine government. There have been proposals to establish a Philippine
Department of Culture.

What’s New

According to Wikipedia that Arts in the Philippines refer to all the various forms
of the arts that have developed and accumulated in the Philippines from the beginning
of civilization in the country up to the present era. They reflect the range of artistic
influences on the country's culture, including indigenous forms of the arts, and how
these influences have honed the country's arts. These arts are divided into two distinct
branches, namely, traditional arts and non-traditional arts. Each branch is further
divided into various categories with subcategories.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the official cultural agency
of the government of the Philippines, has categorized Filipino arts into traditional and

The traditional arts in the Philippines encompass folk architecture, maritime
transport, weaving, carving, folk performing arts, folk (oral) literature, folk graphic and
plastic arts, ornament, textile, or fiber art, pottery, and other artistic expressions of
traditional culture. There are numerous Filipino specialists or experts on the various
fields of traditional arts, with those garnering the highest distinctions declared
as Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA), equal to National Artist.

Folk architecture
Folk architecture in the Philippines differ significantly per ethnic group, where
the structures can be made of bamboo, wood, rock, coral, rattan, grass, and other
materials. These abodes can range from the hut-style bahay kubo which utilizes
vernacular mediums in construction, the highland houses called bale that may have
four to eight sides, depending on the ethnic association, the coral houses of Batanes
which protects the natives from the harsh sandy winds of the area, the royal
house torogan which is engraved with intricately-made okir motif, and the palaces of
major kingdoms such as the Daru Jambangan or Palace of Flowers, which was the seat
of power and residence of the head of Sulu prior to colonization.

Maritime Transport
Maritime transport in the Philippines includes boat houses, boat-making, and
maritime traditions. These structures, traditionally made of wood chosen by elders and
crafts folks, were used as the main vehicles of the people, connecting one island to
another, where the seas and rivers became the people's roads. Although boats are
believed to have been used in the archipelago for thousands of years since the arrival
of humans through water, the earliest evidence of boat-making and the usage of boats
in the country continues to be dated as 320 AD through the carbon-dating of
the Butuan boats that are identified as remains of a gigantic balangay.

Weaving
Weaving is an ancient art form that continue in the Philippines today, with each
ethnic group having their distinct weaving techniques. The weaving arts are composed
of basket weaving, back-strap loom weaving, headgear weaving, fishnet weaving, and
other forms of weaving.

Carving
The art of carving in the Philippines focuses on woodcarving and folk non-clay
sculptures.

Folk Performing Arts

Folk dances, plays, and dramas constitute most of the folk performing arts in
the Philippines. Like other Southeast Asian countries, each ethnic group in the
Philippines possess their own heritage on folk performing arts, however, Filipino folk
performing arts also includes Spanish and American influences due to the country's
historical narratives. Some dances are also related to the dances from neighboring
Austronesian and other Asian countries.

Folk (oral) Literature

The arts under folk (oral) literature include the epics, songs, myths, and other
oral literature of numerous ethnic groups in the Philippines. The poetic arts in the
Philippines has been attributed as high in form and full of metaphor. The oral literature
has shaped the people's thinking and way of life, providing basis for values, traditions,
and societal systems that aid communities in multiple facets of life. As diverse as
Filipino folk literature is, many of the literary works continue to develop, with some
being documented by scholars and inputted into manuscripts, tapes, video recordings,
or other documentary forms.
18
Pottery
The art of pottery, categorized into ceramic making, clay pot-making, and folk
clay sculpture, has long been a part of various cultures in the Philippines, with
evidence pointing to a pottery culture dating around 3,500 years ago. Important pottery
artifacts from the Philippines include the Manunggul Jar (890-710 BCE) and
the Maitum anthropomorphic pottery (5 BC-225 AD).

Non-Traditional Arts
 Dance
The art of dance under the non-traditional category covers dance
choreography, dance direction, and dance performance. Philippine dance is
influenced by the folk performing arts of the country, as well as its Hispanic
traditions. Many styles also developed due to global influences.
 Music
Musical composition, musical direction, and musical performance are the
core of the art of music under the non-traditional category. The basis of Filipino
music is the vast musical tangible and intangible heritage of the many ethnic
groups in the archipelago, where some of which have been influenced by other
Asian and Western cultures, notably Hispanic and American music.
 Theater
Theater has a long history in the Philippines. The basis of which is the
folk performing arts under the traditional arts. In the non-traditional category,
theatrical direction, theatrical performance, theatrical production design,
theatrical light and sound design, and theatrical playwriting are the focal arts.
Theater in the Philippines is Austronesian in character, which is seen in rituals,
mimetic dances, and mimetic customs of the people.
 Visual arts
The visual arts under the non-traditional arts include painting, non-folk
sculpture, printmaking, photography, installation art, mixed media works,
illustration, graphic arts, performance art, and imaging.
 Literature
Poetry, fiction, essay, and literary/art criticism are the focal arts of
literature under the non-traditional arts, which are usually based on or
influenced by the traditional art of folk (oral) literature of the natives, which
focuses greatly on works of art from epics, ethnic mythologies, and related
stories and traditions. In some cultures, calligraphy on various mediums were
utilized to create literary works. An example is the ambahan of the Hanunoo
Mangyan.
 Architecture
Architecture under the category of non-traditional arts focus on non-folk
architecture and its allied arts such as interior design, landscape architecture,
and urban design.
 Design
The art of design is present in all forms of art, whether traditional or non-
traditional, however, the design arts under the non-traditional arts usually
emphasize industrial design and fashion design.

WHAT I NEED to KNOW
This module focuses on the contemporary art forms based on the elements and
principles. First and most importantly, a person cannot create art without utilizing at
least a few of them. Secondly, knowing what the elements of art are, it enables us to
describe what an artist has done, analyze what is going on in a particular piece and
communicate our thoughts and findings using a common language.
The principles of art allow us to place some kind of objective reasoning behind
why a great painting is great. This is important as it keeps us from falling into a vague
space where art is no longer able to be defined or critiqued (much like what has
happened with modern art).
Creativity allows us to view and solve problems more openly and with
innovation. Creativity opens the mind. A society that has lost touch with
its creative side is an imprisoned society, in that generations of people may be closed
minded. It broadens our perspectives and can help us overcome prejudices. Examples
of creative thinking skills include: problem solving, writing, visual art, communication
skills, and open-mindedness.
Creativity is the ability to think about a task or a problem in a new or different
way, or the ability to use the imagination to generate new ideas. Creativity enables you
to solve complex problems or find interesting ways to approach tasks. If you
are creative, you look at things from a unique perspective

What’s New

According to Wikipedia, there are elements of art. Elements of art are stylistic
features that are included within an art piece to help the artist communicate. When
analyzing these intentionally utilized elements, the viewer is guided towards a deeper
understanding of the work. The seven most common elements include the following:

1. Line
Lines are marks moving in a space between two points whereby a viewer
can visualize the stroke movement, direction, and intention based on how the
line is oriented. Lines describe an outline, capable of producing texture
according to their length and curve. There are different types of lines artists may
use, including, actual, implied, vertical, horizontal, diagonal and contour lines,
which all have different functions. Lines are also situational elements, requiring
the viewer to have knowledge of the physical world in order to understand their
flexibility, rigidity, synthetic nature, or life.
2. Shape
A shape is a two-dimensional design encased by lines to signify its height
and width structure, and can have different values of color used within it to
make it appear three-dimensional. In animation, shapes are used to give a
character a distinct personality and features, with the animator manipulating
the shapes to provide new life. There are different types of shapes an artist can
use and fall under either geometrical, defined by mathematics, or organic
shapes, created by the artist. Simplistic, geometrical shapes include circles,
triangles and squares, and provide a symbolic and synthetic feeling, whereas
acute angled shapes with sharp points are perceived as dangerous shapes.
Rectilinear shapes are viewed as dependable and more structurally sound, while
curvilinear shapes are chaotic and adaptable.
3. Form
Form is a three-dimensional object with volume of height, width and
depth. These objects include cubes, spheres and cylinders. Form is often used
when referring to physical works of art, like sculptures, as form is connected
most closely with three-dimensional works.
4. Color
Color is an element consisting of hues, of which there are three
properties: hue, chroma or intensity, and value. Color is present when light
strikes an object and it is reflected back into the eye, a reaction to a hue arising
in the optic nerve. The first of the properties is hue, which is the distinguishable
color, like red, blue or yellow. The next property is value, meaning the lightness
or darkness of the hue. The last is chroma or intensity, distinguishing between
strong and weak colors. A visual representation of chromatic scale is observable
through the color wheel that uses the primary colors.
5. Space
Space refers to the perspective (distance between and around) and
proportion (size) between shapes and objects and how their relationship with
the foreground or background is perceived. There are different types of spaces
an artist can achieve for different effect. Positive space refers to the areas of the
work with a subject, while negative space is the space without a subject. Open
and closed space coincides with three-dimensional art, like sculptures, where
open spaces are empty, and closed spaces contain physical sculptural elements.

40
6. Texture
Texture is used to describe the surface quality of the work, referencing
the types of lines the artist created. The surface quality can either be tactile (real)
or strictly visual (implied). Tactile surface quality is mainly seen through three-
dimensional works, like sculptures, as the viewer can see and/or feel the
different textures present, while visual surface quality describes how the eye
perceives the texture based on visual cues.
7. Value
The scale between dark (black) and light (white) values. Value refers to
the degree of perceivable lightness of tones within an image. The element of value
is compatible with the term luminosity, and can be "measured in various units
designating electromagnetic radiation". The difference in values is often called
contrast, and references the lightest (white) and darkest (black) tones of a work
of art, with an infinite number of grey variants in between. While it is most
relative to the greyscale, though, it is also exemplified within colored images.

Principles of Art & Design of Contemporary arts

1. Pattern
A principle of art and the universe itself, a pattern is an element (or set
of elements) that is repeated in a piece of work or an associated set of works.
Artists use patterns as decoration, as a technique of composition, or as an entire
piece of artwork.
2. Repetition
The repeated use of particular elements of visual arts to create a pattern,
movement, rhythm, or unity.
3. Rhythm
Rhythm is a principle of design that suggests movement or
action. Rhythm is usually achieved through repetition of lines, shapes, colors,
and more. It creates a visual tempo in artworks and provides a path for the
viewer's eye to follow.
4. Balance
Balance in Art refers to the use of artistic elements such as line, texture,
color, and form in the creation of artworks in a way that renders visual stability.
... It is through a reconciliation of opposing forces that equilibrium or balance of
elements is achieved in art
5. Contrast
A principle of art, contrast refers to the arrangement of opposite elements
and effects. For example, light and dark colors, smooth and rough textures, large
and small shapes. Contrast can be used to create variety, visual interest, and
drama in an artwork
6. Emphasis
A principle of art which refers to the use of visual elements to draw
attention to a certain area, usually a focal point, in an artwork. There are many
ways you could go about using emphasis in your art. Usually, it involves
contrasting different elements against each other.

41
7. Movement
An art movement is a tendency or style in art with a specific common
philosophy or goal, followed by a group of artists during a specific period of time,
(usually a few months, years or decades) or, at least, with the heyday of
the movement defined within a number of years.
8. Unity
Unity (also called harmony) is an important principle of design that gives
the artwork a sense of cohesion or coherence. It is the wholeness or
completeness of a picture. Unity and harmony in art are used by artists to tie a
composition together and help the composition make sense as a whole piece
of art.

WHAT I NEED to KNOW
This module focuses on the forms of arts from the different regions of our
country. The importance of the arts in regional development should not be
underestimated. Art can reflect, and recreate, meanings and identities
for regional communities. Artists can also communicate their region, their community,
and their culture to outsiders in ways that generate interest, respect, and even
understanding. Every art form has an important role in our culture. The dance,
whether ethnic, social, and spectacular, is an important part of culture. Dancing
provides pleasure and enjoyment, relaxation, and improves social life of people of all
ages
Studying contemporary art allows students to broaden their understanding of
themselves, their community, and the world. It helps them become critical thinkers as
they consider the influences that led to the creation of each work of art, such as
sociopolitical climate, the artist's training, and cultural influence. With the art that we
are surrounded by, whether it's a painting, music or even videos can have a huge
impact on our mood and emotions. ... All kinds of art can affect our mood in a positive

ensembles. Different groups have different ways of playing the kulintang. Two
major groups seem to stand-out in kulintangmusic. These are the
Maguindanaon and the Maranaw. The kulintang instrument itself could be

What’s New

According to Arkadmin (2020), that studying contemporary art allows students

to broaden their understanding of themselves, their community, and the world. It
helps them become critical thinkers as they consider the influences that led to the
creation of each work of art, such as sociopolitical climate, the artist’s training, and
cultural influence.
Benefits of Studying Contemporary Arts
1. Aesthetic value
One of the greatest advantages of contemporary art is its aesthetic value.
This means that art has a certain ability to evoke a feeling of joy in the viewer.
Although what is perceived as pleasing to the eye may vary depending on the
viewer, given the wide variety of media and methods used for this style of art,
there is probably a form that is appealing to everyone.
Given their aesthetic value, contemporary artworks can also be used to
decorate many different venues. Even outdoor sculpture parks can contain art
and make it easily accessible to everyone while enlivening the urban landscape.
Not everyone can afford an art print or sculpture, but with printed
reproductions, almost anyone can get a work of art to personalize their home.
2. Relaxation and Inspiration
Research has shown that viewing art can be relaxing. This is used for
some of the mindfulness exercises that are currently so popular. Art can help to
bring people out of their frenzied and wandering thoughts, into the present
moment, to experience what lies ahead. This is helpful because it teaches people
to do this at other times, which can reduce the symptoms of anxiety and
depression.
3. Aids Self Expression
One of the advantages of contemporary art is that it offers the individual
a means of personal expression. Through painting, sculpture and performance
art, everyone can express themselves in a way that others can safely observe.
Likewise, the perspectives that are expressed are valuable to society because
they provide a unique window into the mind and thoughts of the artist.
4. Cultural commentary
Besides personal expression, contemporary art allows the artist to
comment on the culture around him. This can include expressing their views on
everything from politics to popular culture, literally or figuratively. Using images,
forms and other different media, the artist can create a dialogue or a narrative
about his views. When the viewer engages with the work, he is engaged in the
artist’s dialogue.
As this style of art comments on the current socio-political and pop-
cultural climate, it also becomes a visual historical record of life. It is a record
that contains not only facts such as dates and names, but also the feelings that
people had at that time. There is a reason why art is so often carefully preserved,
it gives the past a unique lens that can be read about not only in history books.
5. Thought-provoking
Given that contemporary art is both personally expressive and
commentary on culture, it will be thought-provoking for most viewers. This is
indeed the reason why many people like to go to museums and spend time with
art. It gives people the opportunity to expose themselves to stimuli that can
evoke thoughts and even emotions. For many it can lead to new information,
education and growth.

66
According to Eastwood College (2019) that arts and craft have an important role
in the school curriculum.
Importance of Arts
1. Physical Benefits
Development of fine motor skills. Since most arts and crafts activities
consist of moving fingers and hands, they help in developing fine motor skills.
Simple actions like holding a paintbrush and coloring with pencils help
strengthen muscles and improve their control.
2. Enhances dexterity
Arts and crafts activities can enhance the children’s dexterity and agility.
With the enhancement of fine motor skills and much practice, a child’s manual
dexterity, artistic skills, and speed will also increase.
3. Improvement of hand-eye coordination
Engaging in activities related to arts and crafts from a very young age
leads to a tremendous improvement in hand-eye coordination. This will help a
child during later primary school years when she or he is spacing out words or
forming letters.
4. Social Benefits
Learn to appreciate art and culture. Through arts and craft, children
learn to value and appreciate artifacts and images across cultures and times.
Experience in design, art, and crafts enable them to reflect critically on their
own work and those by others. They learn to act and think like designers and
artists, working intelligently and creatively. They also learn about the
preservation of heritage through art. A lot of the information we have now about
people that lived millions of years ago came solely from art.
5. Enhances self-expression
By engaging in creative pursuits of music and arts and crafts, children
get the opportunity of expressing themselves in a positive, tangible and
meaningful way. They also learn to create artwork on their own.
6. Helps in socializing
Participating, with other students in art class, gives children a chance to
interact with others while sharing common interests. The process of arts and
crafts also strengthens parent-child bonding.
7. Boosts confidence
Arts and craft activities help instill a sense of achievement and pride in
children, boosting their self-confidence.
8. Cognitive Benefits
Enhances creativity. The opportunity to create whatever a child desires
helps foster creativity.
9. Sharpens skills of decision making
A child will learn to make correct and effective decisions by facing and
solving artistic challenges. This helps to develop a problem-solving attitude,
which in turn, will help them in the future.
10. Enhances memory and visual learning
A child learns about new colors and shapes through arts and crafts as
well as gains familiarity with various figures and patterns. Activities like learning
guitar, jewelry making, etc. need visualization and memorization of complex
designs in mind. Arts and crafts not only help in the above traits but also in
boosting academic performance. Above all these are activities filled with lots of
fun for children.

What’s New
According to the website to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts
(NCCA), Philippines is the overall policy making body, coordinating, and grants giving
agency for the preservation, development and promotion of Philippine arts and culture;
an executing agency for the policies it formulates; and task to administering the
National Endowment Fund for Culture and the Arts (NEFCA) -- fund exclusively for the
implementation of culture and arts programs in line with the Medium Term Philippine
Development Plan for Culture and the Arts.

The government’s support for cultural development is particularly highlighted

by the passage of R.A. 7356 that created the NCCA. The coordination among the
cultural agencies was strengthened by the virtue of Executive Order No. 80, which
placed the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the National Historical Institute (now,
the National Historical Commission of the Philippines), the National Museum, The
National Library (now, The National Library of the Philippines), and the Records,
Management, and Archives Office (now, the National Archives of the Philippines) under
the NCCA umbrella. Further, through Republic Act No. 9155, administratively attached
the earlier aforementioned five cultural agencies to the NCCA, including now the
Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino. Thus, the NCCA is responsible for culture and the arts
in the Philippines and, if not in the name, the de facto Ministry of Culture.
The NCCA together with the six cultural agencies work with the principle of
partnership, collaboration and shared responsibility in effectively and efficiently
achieving the implementation of cultural programs as well as maximizing of resources.

to promote their work. There are many online art galleries that are looking
