Class Nursery Summer Holidays Homework
Holidays are great, but schoolwork can be fun filled and inspiring too! As the school closes for the summer break
we have planned some activities / worksheets / projects for your child to enhance his / her learning skills in a
fun filled way. We have tried to make the work enjoyable keeping in mind the interest of the children. Space out
the work and the child will enjoy doing it.
HOLIDAYS HOMEWORK FOLDER: Attempt all the Worksheets given in the Holidays Homework Folder.
GET CREATIVE: Help your child make an attractive, handmade folder with old newspapers. Decorate it and
compile all the holiday homework in it.
EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES
1. Encourage your child to eat healthy food and drink lots of water during summer.
2. Try to speak in English with your ward.
3. Make a routine for your child to play, revise concepts and watch T.V. (Let your child watch some
entertaining T.V. shows so that he/she does not watch T.V. as a pastime).
MAKE YOUR HOME A PLACE FOR READING
Here are some tips to help parents of young children to promote reading at home.
Choose a quiet time for reading to your child, as in before a nap, bedtime, or after dinner.
Choose a special place for family reading, like a comfortable chair or pillow piled on the floor.
Let your child select the book for you to read.
Hold the book so that she or he can see the pictures. If possible, also let her or him turn the pages.
Take time to look at and talk about the pictures. Don't just read the story: talk about it. Let your child
point out the letters, shapes, colors and animals.
Understand that reading begins at home. Children read their environments, so make your home a print
rich environment.
Read! Don't expect reading to be important to your children if they see that it's not important to you.
Invite your child to read with you.
Read aloud to your child every day.
As children learn to observe their surroundings, they begin to both identify and distinguish between sounds,
sights, tastes, smells, and sensations. They develop a sense of curiosity about themselves and the world around
them.
We encourage our parents to point out, discuss and expose children to the world around them. First hand
observation and hands-on exposure is the best way to give pre-scholars and the foundation that they need for
learning.
Directions:
1. Once you are on a road-trip, talk to your children about the surroundings. If you are going through a
village, you should explain that this is a village. Point out the fields, trees, flowers, animals, water bodies,
local market, village hall, post office and explain what goes on there. Talk about what makes up and goes
on in a village or any other area that you are crossing.
2. As you're in the car, shopping at the grocery store, or waiting at the petrol pump, help your toddler to point
to all the things he/ she sees. Help him/her to identify various shapes and colours.
3. Children should be encouraged to ask questions. As we all know, having answers to questions is the first
step towards satiating the basic thirst for knowledge.
The school shall remain closed for the Summer Holidays from
Sunday, 25-May-14 to Monday, 30-Jun-14.
