LABOR STANDARDS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is about the fundamental principles of labor law, the law on recruitment and placement, and
labor standards.
- State the legal bases of labor law; affirm the basic rights of workers and employers;
- Tell when there is illegal recruitment; discuss the rights of apprentices, learners and the disabled;
- Restate and apply the minimum standards on hours of work, rest days, holidays, various leaves,
minimum wages, payment and protection of wages, and 13th month pay, and the prescribed working
conditions for women, minors, house helps and other special groups of workers.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Written Reports/ Quizzes 10.00%

Final exam 30.00%
- Written reports shall consist of the digested cases assigned for the entire duration of the
semester. It shall be submitted at the end of the semester. All case digests must be in the own
handwriting of the students, highlighting labor law related issues and discussions.
- ATTENDANCE: Based on the prescribed policy on attendance of students, 20% of the total
number of class sessions for the semester is the permissible number of absences. According to
the academic calendar, there are ___ weeks allotted for regular classes and for a three-unit
subject, students are allowed only ___ (___) absences. On the ____ time the student is absent,
he/she shall be automatically dropped from the list of students.
- Considering the current pandemic, learning sessions shall be done online. Inability to attend
classes due to poor internet connection or other circumstances within the realm of
reasonableness should be relayed directly to the professor thru email or text message.
