Objectives:
At the end of this module, the students should be able to:
a. determine basic computer concepts and components of a computer;
b. explain how computer technology affect our lives; and
c. apply basic knowledge about computers through an interactive online activity.

Overview:

Hello, students! I hope that in spite of the pandemic, the will and
determination to learn remains in you. For today’s module, we will be
discussing the basic concepts of computer as well as familiarize yourselves with
its parts and how to properly care for it whether it’s in use or not.

Lesson Proper:

What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information or data. It has the ability to
store, retrieve, and process data. You can use a computer to type documents, send email, and surf the
Internet. It is also used to handle spreadsheets, accounting, database management, presentations, games,
and more.

THE COMPONENTS OF A COMPUTER

Data Processing Cycle is the process of changing data into a more useful form. The sequence of
events in processing information, includes (1) Input, (2) Storage, (3) Process, and
(4) Output.

Hardware Components
Input Devices. These are peripherals in the computer that are used to enter the
data and instruction in the computer.
Output Devices. These are peripherals in the computer that are used in producing
results of computer operations into understandable product or result.
Processing Devices. These are responsible for the execution of the programs and
control of its overall operation.
Storage Devices. These are physical equipment that can be considered as input
and output device at the same time.

Software Components
System Software. This is the backbone of all software. Examples are Operating
System, Utility Software, and Driver Software.
Application Software. These are the programs with specific function or use.
Examples are Microsoft Office Family, Photo Editing, Games, etc.
Anti-Virus Software. Antivirus is a protective software that are designed to
defend your computer against malicious software. Malicious software or
“malware” includes: viruses, trojans, keyloggers, hijackers, dialers, and other
code that vandalizes or steals your computer contents.
