Vernacular in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh has three main climatic zones - the Coastal Plains region has a warm, humid climate and some cities are prone to cyclones and tsunamis. The Rayalaseema region is semi-arid and has faced chronic drought for centuries. Traditional houses in Andhra Pradesh use locally available materials like wood, bamboo, mud, lime, palm leaves and tiles. Houses have features like pitched roofs, mud walls, rainwater collection systems, and are organized functionally with spaces for storage, kitchen and toilets separated from the main building.

Spatial organisation
The functional spaces in the vernacular house are laid out
as per the convenience of the user and a set of unwritten
beliefs. The convenience aspect lead to the location of
Grannary near the front porch, space in the verandah for
storing agricultural tools, kitchen detached from the main
Cuttillu Cob mud house or placed at the rear side of the house, toilets
Palm thatch detached from the main house, front garden, kitchen
Palm wood garden etc.
